Description
In Azumanga Daioh the Manga, Book 4, page 043, you will find a lovely half-page black and white study of secondary character Kaori Aida in a bamboo-pattern swimsuit. The anime would not attempt such a complex pattern, so we never get to see it in colour. Since Kaorin is a fave character of mine, when I saw this I knew I had to try it.I'm extremely pleased with the result, especially her eyes.

Thanks for saying. I worked on it a looong time, and learned some new techniques along the way. Was quite a challenge. Definitely a labour of love!
BTW, I've run a Google Image scan on this pic, and someone has already copied it out of DA and stuck it into her own website. - That's kind of a compliment, really.

i know thanks go to azuma-sensei for the drawing itself. this is one of my favorite pictures in the manga and i'm glad to finally see it colored! and you did do the amazing coloring!

Well yes, and thank you. I did do an amazing job of coloring. I could probably still mess around with the shadowing a bit, but the green and gold is just perfect, somehow. It seemed to be the colours it needed, to my instinct.
(Did you notice I trimmed her hair - made is a bit crisper than the original drawing? I like her haircut SO MUCH!!!
And yes, it is definitely one of the best portraits in the entire series. Azuma rocks!
