Headcanon: Rarity made a mistake that was utterly inconsequential to Applejack, but Rarity blew it completely out of proportion and (being Rarity) insisted that only a sufficiently dramatic apology could undo the horrible damage she wrought. Complete with rain and proper lighting. She beats herself up so badly that the others cooperate in constructing her apology just to let the poor girl get it out of her system. Applejack understand the whole situation, thinks it's just stupid, and pulls Rarity in for warm-ups and snuggles.
