Description
The first in the Fallen Giants series, a collection of photographs of trees downed by the storm that swept through Minneapolis on May 22, 2011. All the pictures in this series were shot in Wirth Park, the same park where I shot my 2010 fall color series. Some might go so far as to wonder if the vibrant color of that autumn was a portent to the back-breaking winter we endured, followed by the deadliest Minnesota storm season on record - and it's not even June, yet.

What's most dramatic about this tree is that, as best I can tell, the winds twisted it right off of its trunk, like some enormous hand trying to use it as a lever.
