Lore:

Bunbon are common creatures in the Wonder Yard, known for their skittish nature and named after the sound their shells make. Despite their appearance, they can be quite the pest if not warded off. But the most damage they can do is feed off crops that the Wonder-kin grow, which is more of an annoyance because wonder-kin don't normally need to eat, and have the crops there for show.

In any case, efforts are made to negotiate with them on this issue. From this we learned that they can make fabric and silk out of the crops they harvest.

While the one in this drawing is native to the wonder yard, there are bunbon-like creatures found everywhere. Even in other lands.

Artist's note:

One of the things I love about games like Mario and TLOZ series is the enemy variety and designs. From goombas and koopas, to those weird "bubbles" that are more like floating skulls. These foes, friends, and otherwise are cute, cool, and all varieties of interesting.

So when it came to drawing enemy concepts for Eternal Star, I knew I had to make at least one standard enemy that you'd see a lot of. The reason why I went with a bug design (besides me thinking that bugs are cute and get a bad rep,) is because I think their shells can act as armor for creatures without me literally giving them armor.

Other than that, I just wanted to draw, and a buggy dude was the first thing that came to mind.

I got the name bunbon from a few people on discord. One said the creatures should be named something like Bungobugs (which really rolled off the tongue), and another made a joke about them making bongo noises when hit which I thought was funny. So I put the two names together and called them bunbons.

This is gonna be one in a few drawings and concepts I'll post of the wonder-yard, and more will be on it's way (when I make them, you know how it is).
