fanart for a game named "Ghosts over the Water Changing the Tides of Japan's Future". It's a visual novel where you play as a young samurai named Tsumaki Naoharu and you work for Lord Abe Masahiro. He tasks you with gathering information on the public's view of the foreigners entering the country in the 1850s and Perry's black ships so you are send to go to Edo and talk to local people.

On your way you bump into other historical figures like Yoshida Shoin or Ii Naosuke. You also meet a young Tokugawa/Hitotsuhashi Yoshinobu who spends time at a local diner and wants to escape from the pressure his father puts on him. You can befriend him later on. Or you can befriend Yoshida Shoin. You can't befriend Ii Naosuke, he'll just snark at you.

You can join different "factions" in the game i.e if you wanna oppose western ideas and throw the foreigners out (sonno-joi), try to reform the old system or embrace them and modernize. Depending on which path you take you get a different ending.

The game has an anime art style but I drew these characters in my style and to resemble the people more they are based on.
