These are Prometheans. They were officially labeled so by 343. The name implies an undeniable forerunner connection. This leads me to believe that the new enemy will be a rogue Forerunner.

if any of you read the forerunner saga then what im about to say might make sense. I think these machines are precursors not forerunner.

They are Forerunners known as Prometheans the highest mutation that a Forerunner warrior caste can be given. These guys are AI created by Prometheans (AKA Didact is a Promethean)

This is what I think. It seems Didact has taken control over a large fraction of the Promethean AIs and have forced them to become rampant (Seen with them being with Orange lights.) While there are other prometheans in screenshots and footage that are pure blue which shows they are perfectly still stable. Could also mean somehow Cortana has taken control over them... if a human AI is advanced enough to do so.
