It has the bonus effect of making the lights flicker off when she sneaks into a room, wooo spooky. I imagine she likes to hang out in old video game arcades leeching electricity and scaring the piss out of lost kids
2-5.) Direct response to . Larimar accidentally pushed Onyx's reboot button (it's in her right boob, blame pervy sleeping Larimar). When Onyx reboots she switches to drone mode, a sort of robo-slave state in which she will obey her superiors without question.
larimar has never been addressed by any title resembling respect from onyx, let alone "commander" XD
Onyx can be switched back to normal by rebooting her again, not that Citrine or Larimar know that

Head canon for #1: Onyx was always meant to become a corrupted gem. In order to find a way to communicate or see the thought process of a corrupted gem, they experimented on a young, disposable gem to become a window into the mind of a corrupted gem- enter Onyx. She was meant to be used as a way to research the mental stability of the corrupted gems using the attachments on her, which would re establish a connection to onyx once she became corrupted. In order to test out their new creation, homeworld set her up to crash on a planet where she would be alone and would've entered a corrupted state due to solitary on earth. What they hadn't counted on was the ragtag group of gems who would keep her grounded that consists of Emerald, Citrine, and Larimar. They Gave her a reason to fight it and are one of the only things keeping her normal. Homeworld has attempted to connect to her and find out what went wrong since she should've corrupted at least a decade after she crashed. She has the ability to break the connection while conscious in her normal form, but in her corrupted form she lacks the control to do so. Yeah... Larimar gets intertwined somewhere but I put that in one of Kilalas pics
