I originally got the idea for this project from [link] and his own self portrait [link] so when an open ended assignment came up in my design class i knew exactly what i wanted to do... this.

brief overview of process....
*took a self portrait with camera
*cropped out selected area in PS
*printed then used real graphite tracing paper to map out contour lines
*photo of contour trace and loaded into PS
*Re-traced all contour lines in PS
*applied chosen colors to selected areas.

*"Wacom" 'Bamboo Fun' pen/mouse tablet (made this project infinitely easier and faster to complete)

this took me less than 4 days to complete.

i know that there are some areas that need touching up as well as to re-pick some of the colors and fine tune them for proper depth perception and or overall pallet cohesion, i may do this down the road some day but im satisfied with how it turned out at this point. this was the first time i did anything like this and i think that i did a decent job of it, it was also my first ever PS project from start to finish... that i have completed that is. if i have more time in the future to just goof off on stuff like this i may do other subjects in much the same way.
