The teeth weren't really as big a problem for me as, well, the rest of his look.

The biggest thing for me is that his face gets very triangular, instead of being round.

It's just bizarre to look at. And what worries me is didn't they already say they were going to fix Sonic after the first time this horror-show leaked? This is someone's idea of fixed.

I know exactly how to fix it. But they won't be able to do it, because it involves scrapping everything they did thus far, and start from scratch. Biggest change is, drop the whole transport character to our Earth shtick. And keep them in their own world.

Oh I hear you. Have no idea why they insist on moving Sonic to Earth, especially since the lack of other Mobians only makes his design stand out more as unnatural.
Of course I also don't understand why they need this to be live action.

They do it because its an easy paint movie by numbers. They make movies about characters like that alot. All of them concentrate on the humans more than the character we want to see.
The only live action movie for cartoon show characters that I can think of that actually worked is the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_… . It worked because the turtles did not jump out of a TV or some dumb BS like that. It worked because the turtles was a part of that world in the first place. And the costumes looked really good and in place. And the cartoon show, they are in the city, with humans, on Earth. So the whole world building works perfect with a live action film and being set on Earth.
I mean what if they decided to make another Star Wars film and decided to make Vader jump out of a TV screen, and now its all on Earth. and for most of the film we are watching some looser regular guy trying to get himself a girlfriend? Granted, Vader would fit on Earth better than Sonic. But it's still off putting.

A part of me wonders if it's also an attempt to subvert the idea of animation being for kids. Personally I think if you're an adult fan concerned with your franchise being animated, maybe you should consider whether or not you want to be a fan. That and the need to have characters be "easily relatable." He's a hedgehog trying to save his friends from being enslaved by an evil scientist. Are you telling me there are people who fail to understand that concept?
I saw the original TMNT in theaters. It also helped they put effort into the practical effects to make the Turtles come to life. People were very willing to suspend their belief there were humanoid turtles back flipping around New York because of that as well. Now days people just slap a green screen down and try to replicate the success Peter Jackson had with Gollum.
But of course people want facial recognition these days so the idea of being the voice of a character instead of physically being seen seems abhorrent.

My reaction for seen the 1st design:youtu.be/BE1HriDzlJs , fortunately, they are redesigning sonic hopefully for the better. Who knows Jim Carrey might be able to pull off a "Raul Julia". (This is more a plus for me but Detective Pikachu looks amazing. Even though I am probably going to see both anyway.)

That's true, considering that there are some cats in Mobius, like Blaze, Big, Honey, Sasha, Sara from the 1996 OVA, and Sir Percival (Yeah, I know both Sir Perxival and Blaze are the same character, but Percival is from another dimension)
