Description
This time another of my characters: it’s a dragon that I wanted to upload long ago… but somehow I didn’t really like his earlier design . Oh well, no time to slack off, let’s introduce this fellow.

Background information

The dragon’s name is Dusk, also known as Dusk the Astral or Dusk the Celestial. He is an ancient dragon that was created as a familiar for a young Mage named Gabriela. As such he is the only one of his kind.
For hundreds of years he and his mistress fought against demons that terrorized the simple people. Always loyal and protective, Dusk was always by her side, ready to spring into action if needed.

Now, he’s retired and spends most of his days resting in the sun and keeping a watchful eye on the children from local towns and villages, who often refer to him as “pappy” or “grandpa”(despite the fact that he doesn’t poses any offspring of his own).

Personality

Dusk is a very docile individual. He prefers to solve problems in a more diplomatic way rather than resorting to violence. Due to his age he often behaves in a very elderly way, including him referring to others as ‘younglings’ even if they are full-grown adults (this mostly refers to those who are about 500 years younger than him).
Thanks to his gentleness and patience he makes for a good babysitter and often allows kids, human or dragon, to use his tail as a slide. He often uses simple magic tricks to amuse them (by for example making puppets with the use of light).
Never the less, Dusk is also a very proud dragon and will not allow others to insult him or Gabriela. Though usually it all comes down to nothing more than severely scolding the one who said or did anything against him or his mistress.

Likes and Dislikes

Being more than 1100 years old, Dusk spends most of his time taking naps and basking in the sun, warming up his old muscles. The only thing he likes more than that is to hear their joyful laughs of playing children, which give him a positive attitude towards every upcoming day.

In terms of food, Dusk likes to eat both meat and plans, as long as they’re fresh of course. He particularly likes fragrant herbs like mint and oregano. As long as something is edible, he’ll eat it.

As for the things he dislikes, you can definitely consider low temperatures. Dusk simply hates it when it gets colder than 10 degrees Celsius. He then becomes really tense and tries to find any possible way to warm up.

He also doesn’t tolerate rude people who disrespect him. If one makes the mistake of not showing at least a small dose of respect towards him, then they should get ready to be scolded…

Finally, there is one particular thing he is very touchy about: if someone keeps pointing out to him, or rather rubbing in his face, that he’s the only one of his kind and thus alone. Dusk always wished to have a family of his own, but considering his age and size it’s basically impossible for him to find a mate. If he starts to think about it for too long he becomes very silent and gloomy.

Skills

Dusks greatest skills are connected with defensive magic. With the use of the red gem on his forehead he can generate powerful barriers. Each barrier can protect him and his comrades from various kinds of magic (be it physical attacks, combat magic or stunning, freezing, poisoning, etc… spells)
He can also apply high level healing and supporting spells to help his allies. In everyday life he uses it to a smaller extent, usually to take care of bruises that the kids he takes care off are very prone to.
Naturally, as an old dragon, he can also use strong combat magic and physical attacks. When engaged in close combat he relies on his size overpower most opponents and take them down with his claws and teeth.
In mid-distance battles he uses his long tail to slam his opponents, often sending the flying in the air.
Little is known about his magical attacks. He usually prefers not to engage himself in combat, and when he does fight he uses his body to attack, rather than magic. By far, the only combat spell he was seen to use was the so called ‘Azure Blast’ (a beam of bright-blue light that he shoots from his mouth) which is his signature move. The blast itself has enough power to blow up a small building.
Also, despite being as heavy as he is, Dusk is perfectly capable of flying at a fairly high speed.

Strengths a Weaknesses

With the help of his defensive spells, Dusk has little to fear from his opponents. With his huge size he hardly ever encounters anyone that can oversize him or even match his size, which allows him to incapacitate most foes by just pinning them down to the ground.

Dusk also possesses a high resistance to non-combat magic. Regular stunning, poisoning, burning, size changing or biding spells have little to no effect on him. It takes some VERY powerful spells to just slow him down for a moment.

His probably biggest weakness however comes from his age. In battle he can get tired pretty easily. Also, as most opponents are both younger and smaller than him they can outmaneuver his attacks and out-speed him when it comes to delivering hits.
When he’s using defensive moves he’s pretty much unable to do anything else as the stronger barriers require more concentration from his side. And when he attacks he’s open to hits from physical and magical moves. Particularly effective against him are Metal and Water based spells.
