Dalvengyr was one of the  dreadlords who during the Third War was helping the forces of the Legion spreading discord and suffering under the leadership of Tichondrius the Darkener. During the invasion to Kalimdor, Dalvengyr stayed behind in fallen human kingdom of  Lordaeron to lead the Scourge there, now under the command of three demonic brothers: Detheroc Balnazzar and Varimathras ., who maintained their occupation of the  Capital CityDalvengyr and his kinsmen were not aware of  Archimond the Defiler's destruction, and continued to wait for word from him as they stood their posts and were dealing with "insignificant" mortals.

In  The Frozen Throne Dalvengyr was tasked to decimate the rest of populace in Magocracy of Dalaran. However suprisingly he met a formidable resistence under the command of  Grand Marshal  Othmar Garithos, which managed to retake Dalaran from the Scourge, and used it as their base. Tired of human resistance, Dalvengyr led (but not in front lines) a large undead strike force advancing through  Silverpine Forest to attempt to retake Dalaran. However his plan failed thanks to efforts of prince of  blood elves -  Kael'thas Sunstrider and  naga under the command of  Lady Vashj, who at first managed  to repair the observatories and then decimate all enemy forces, including the dreadlord himself, but not without a price.

Much, much later in  Legion Dalvengyr was  summonded by warlock Gul'dan to assist in his final battle against their enemies - the brave  adventurers, only to be slain once again (but not pernamently), dying in disbelief, soon followed by his own summoner.
