Bristol Vellum, if I remembered right
The horse's name is Blue, he was rescued by my friend's father just before he was sent to the slaughter house.
As for the horse's neck, some of you mentioned, is just it's true color. The horse is not pure black, he has some white dots under his neck and belly
Please excuse the quality, that's the best I can get from my camera.
What I learned from this piece: if you can't think of a good enough background, it's better not to have one at all

I really like the eyes, they have such emotion in them like this horse has seen much pain. I also like how the light shines on the mane.

i once drew a horse like this, facing the opposite way for AP Art in 9th grade. and the one thing they told me in the critique was, "the face is too short."
which i know, is complete BS. the whole class started to rant off on how all horses have long faces. more BS. i kept quiet only because i was the shyest and youngest in the class. till this day, it hangs above my desk. i am very proud of it. it is one of my many pieces that is viewed wrongly of by other artist.

I think it's an excellent piece. I think everything works really well, with the minor exception of the neck. The neck just doesn't seem to match the rest of the drawing.
