Description The ground beneath shakes under the steps of these gigantic and barbaric machines of war. Their metal heads resemble the scuril faces of their operators. Like toys, tanks and other vehicles move along their side, small and dirty. Huge pillars of smoke and dust follow this strange and threatening movement. The sky darkens and the horizon gets out of sight. In the far distant, unseen by the few defenders, the basion of the Orks arise inside the ruins of a once beautiful metropolis, with it´s many towers fallen and it´s facades broken. Ork ships gather, unleash endless waves of reinforcements unto imperial ground. Their number there alone is greater than that of the defenders on the entire planet.
But this distant power is not the target. The crimson fists start an excursion. The metal beasts can not be beaten by normal weapons and their range is by far superior to that of men. Like lightning they strike from the sky, hitting every weak point, placing bombs and explosives wherever their damage is the highest. Though there is little hope of success - there are even more of such beasts than Crimson Fists on this battlefield. And the Imperial Navy, endlessly throwing everything it has still left on the coming foe, loses little by little all that is left of it´s former strength.
The people wait, hoping either a passing of the storm, or some crazy fools even hope for fight, David against Goliath. For now neither seems likely. Death and defeat is near and this is the last struggle, the last light to shine upon this still human planet.
Hope fades.

As you can see the battle is still going on, but every moment that passes, brings defeat a bit closer. Can this insane breakout bring a turn to the siege? We will find out - together!

The story goes on here:

FYI it looks Tau because of the segmented armour plate sections in non-regular patterns with dark lines between them, and the colour scheme (two muted desert colours in combination).

I should earn money for every time somebody mentions that^^ Check some of the previous comments and you'll see some others who have pointed out the same mistake. But thanks anyway, I completely agree with you (and the others who said so)!

This is what Astartes should be portrayed as. Hordes of slavering fanboys have ruined Astartes by fapping about how big their pauldrons are, and how they effortlessly kill everything by posing with one foot on a piece of rubble.

The whole point of Astartes is the ideal of the kill team. They don't stand there in the battle line waiting for an artillery shell to wipe out half a geneseed. They infiltrate incredibly hard and fast, usually from the sky, and rip apart everything before retreating. Any time you see a picture of Astartes standing in some big line firing bolters, that is people NOT GETTING HOW SPACE MARINES WORK.

Astartes are supposed to exemplify the human spirit, going up against impossible odds not because 'they always win lol' but because they can't win and they're going anyway, by the goddamn emperor. That they can do the impossible, see the invisible, and kick reason to the curb enough to pull out a horrifically grueling victory sometimes anyway doesn't mean that they always do, and it doesn't mean they were always going to win, and thinking either of those things completely negates their bravery and lessens them as heroes and warriors.

Thank you very much! I think you really get the great aspect of the Astartes with your words and what makes them so special. Almost like you stole my thoughts and put them in words

Ideally that is the purpose of a writer, yes.

But in this case your thoughts and mine are in perfect alignment.

A very Ominous story for a even more ominous picture. Looks spectacular, and your story only add to it.
Very Nice.

No matter how many of these I destroy on the table, I still loathe the sight of them >< Mostly out of envy that Orks and IG are the only ones with plastic super heavy kits

But this is terrific work as always. Nice to see the Crimson fists doing what they do best!

Kicking some Orks' butts! Go Crimsons, go Crimsons!

Well, I suppose further super heavy kits will come sometime! I recall talks of making a Thunderhawk for the Space Marines, which would be an equivalent to them

LordDoomhammer In reply to ShadowShogun50 [2012-03-24 09:04:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I made them a bit cleaner than the original ones. And I think they're not really hand-Ork-made, rather by some human slaves. Orks are not that good in such things I suppose^^

You're the second to mention that! But yes, the color scheme is a bit familiar due to lighting and they are by far cleaner than they would actually be

Ultraschmock [2012-03-23 20:02:38 +0000 UTC]

First good job but those gargants are too clean, too... fitting. Orks are the masters of patchwork their machines always look one step away from a critical explosion of pain an death. More useless parts just for the flashy bitz. More paints because red onez are fasta. Dat onez aint orky enuff.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LordDoomhammer In reply to Ultraschmock [2012-03-24 09:06:33 +0000 UTC]

I agree! But I decided to go for a cleaner look, mainly for compositionary reasons, and due to time issues. I hope you can forgive my lack of ORKINESS!

KageRyuuUji [2012-03-23 19:24:02 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, but those Gargants are far too smooth and orderly to be the construction of Orks. Still awesome piece though.
