IS this one made in sketchup too? Β I remember getting your Trek ship that the previous version of this work was done in and I liked it quite a bit. Β

That's exactly how I do it (although I find Kerkythea to be slow and frustrating to work with). Β
I've been told from time to time that Sketchup isn't a 'real' modeling program. Β A lot of modeling resource websites don't even mention it. Β I might just point these people to your work. Β

Oh, I know they're right. Β The base program of sketchup is pitiful. Β It was designed to make basic block sketches of buildings for Google Earth Β So, if it isn't a rectangle, Sketchup gets scared. Β
I run with a bunch of ruby plugins now including Tools on Surface, Curviloft, and others that make the program actually useful. Β I'm seriously considering buying the Artisan plugin, which would allow me to make organic shapes with basic blocking and automatic poly-generation. Β
But, at that point, I'd basically have a buggy version of Blender that can't render anything. Β
I think part of the reason I like Sketchup so much is that modeling things in this program provides a technical challenge that Blender and Maya erase. Β If I could output high-quality renders without so much difficulty, It would be much more enjoyable. Β
