Depends upon your definition of a point. For the 100 million killed in the 20th Century, it was a defining point, arguable the decisive point.
War, like the weather, is always with us.

War is in human nature, wars over fictional characters, blind faith, over ethnicity, money, resources, honor, conquest just for conquest...All this for a faction of a speck of dust, people trying to blame this on gods, free will or any other type of bullshit
We are humans the struggle for survival has ended for most of us, now we struggle for power. We want to be the leaders of our packs, war changes in few ways but one thing never changes

Welcome to the Human race. We fell from grace and this is our curse, war and violence and disease and death. war is the worst of it, but it also brings out mankind at it's best. for every life lost there is a life saved. For every bullet fired, their is a bandage rapped.

I am the blood god, welcome to my world
I will cut your flesh
I will rip your assΒ
I will stab your belly
Reduce your bowels to jelly
My blade is my brotherΒ
My blade is my lord
My blade is my soul
It calls to war
I will open up your guts
And drink of your blood
I'm a monster - GoreobsessedΒ
A warmachine - demon-possessed
Weapons of steel - Iron Will - Goreobsessed - Blood god kills - I will crush you to dust - Bones are broken - Killing with a perverse lust - Blood god is awokenΒ

There will always be somebody out there looking to subjugate the world, and somebody else will always have to be there to put him down.Β It's one of the sad facts of life. I do like the picture and agree with the message.

War is sad; tragic, even. And yet, it will never go away. These are the facts: War is a direct product of free will. Humans are naturally opinionated, and most enjoy or are compelled to lash out at those whose opinions differ from their own. It is the power and right to make decisions that is directly responsible for all wars. Someone made the dumb decision to attack someone else, or create an international incident. That presents the first option to get rid of war: Eliminate free will completely.
The second option is far more severe: The utter annihilation of all living - sentient or not - things. So, a mass genocide on a universal scale. For to be no war, there must be no one to create it.

The only war I can think of that was selfless was the American Civil War. However it was one of the bloodiest war in American history.
The photograph has meaning and it feels hollow. Like no emotion. But it's such a brilliant photograph. Keep it up!

I hate to be the one to say this, but...
The American Civil War was also a selfish war. It started over economic and social differences between the north and south and the fact that Congress was favoring industrial north and the south felt left out. The freeing of the slaves during the war was actually a political move by Lincoln (who just happened to have not supported slavery) with the Emancipation Proclamation. Blacks weren't actually free until after the war when the 14th Amendment was added during Reconstruction (but they still had to fight segregation in BOTH the north and south).

This is a brilliant piece, emotional in its hollowness, so to speak. The dehumanizaing effect of the gas mask combined with the statistics really conveys the emptiness of it all.
The sad truth is that as long as there are humans, there will be war. The best we can do is try and be sure that when we kill, its for the right reasons. But that doesn't happen very often.

and do you ever realize that people have been fighting over the exact same shit since the dawn of our civilization? Money, power, territory, and religion. its sad really that we cant just learn that we're all the same and there's no point in killing each other for stupid, trivial stuff like this. life is worth more than that.

Conflict defines us. Its in everything we do, from how we view a commute to work to how we define a good story. Always struggle, always conflict. Every attempt in history to "just get along" has ended in the butchery of those who were too weak or unwilling to defend themselves. I know it sounds pessimistic and even vindictive, but perhaps instead of trying to pretend to be something we're not, we should come to terms with what we are, and learn the best way to master it.

yeah, cuz i know that you're always going to have someone that doesn't agree with you so i guess you just gotta learn to deal with that. but i can't stand people who feel they need to kill others just because they don't see eye to eye.

i'm not going to say i am a war supporter, but i am a soldier...i don't think ANYONE here has stopped to consider that there is always, and will always, be a bigger picture to consider - if you are utilitarian in your thinking, you will understand that no matter what the desired outcome, you are still trying to change odds that are nigh insurmountable...
we, men, have only ever done one thing right in our brief history - war. like it or not, it runs through our veins as if it were our very blood. as long as men exist, there will be war, because i guarantee you war didn't exist before men...and won't exist after men...
