Description A super groups of funky, awesome heroes I urge you do discover, if you haven't.

My guy, The Worm has teamed up with most of them.

Herbie Popnecker, the Fat Fury!
He's in the front, dead center. Created by Richard E. Hughes and Ogden Whitney. This guy's unstoppable. He'll Bop! you with this here lollipop and you'll wish he hadn't.

Captian Klutz! The uber-goober in the blue cowl directly to Herbie's left. Created by one of my earliest influcences for his work in Mad MAgazine, Don Martin. A sometimes homeless hero with good intentions.

Normalman and Captain Everything. Created by Jim Valentino, who also gave us Shadowhawk! Normal man is in the green sportsjacket and red bowtie. He lives on Levram, a world where everyone had powers but him. Including Captain Everything wearing yellow spandex and a red cape behind Fatman and Captain Klutz.

Fatman, the Human Flying Saucer. The tubby hero in green. Created by artist C. C. Beck and writer Otto Binder. He could morph into a big flying saucer and fight criminals!

Ace and Gary, the Ambiguously Gay Duo! Created by Robert Smigel (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog!) and J. J. Sedelmaier. You know, the two in aqua spandex standing reeeaaalllly close to each other! Bwahahaha, you have to love em right??

Bluntman and Chronic! Created by Kevin Smith! Love 'em or hate em, they are some crude, cool dudes with and ever cruder rogues gallery. You can probably pick them out as Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith themselves.

Megaton Man! Big dude with goggles, directly to the left of The Flaming Carrot. I was lucky enough to get my hands Megaton Man and Bizarre Heroes as a kid. Don Simpson is a genius and has laid out such an unbelievably vast and rich universe unto itself. A fully contained universe original to only him! Until you've met Yarn Man, you won't be the same.

The Flaming Carrot! Ut! Bob Burden has given the world this character and the world said...Wha...? Amazing, funny, absurd stories pour out of the mind of Mr. Bob Burden, an unending trove of intelligent imaginative concepts and bananas. I loved the Mystery Men movie, but only because I didn't realize I had already met the original Mystery Men in the Flaming Carrot stories. Love Mr. Burden's world.

Mr. Mumbo Jumbo and The Dog! Created by another influence of mine, Fred Hembeck. Seeing his early Marvel hero parodies gave me permission to draw the heroes how I saw them and develop my own style.

The Tick and Arthur! Created by Ben Edlund to be a mascot for a comic store. The books are hilarious, the shows are hilarious. You probably know them. Spoon!

E-Man! Created by writer Nicola Cuti and artist Joe Staton! They still own him too!
He's the hero in orange and yellow right in front of the Tick. This guy could stretch, fly, shapeshift and blast stuff!

Madman! Right above Bluntman with the red exclamation bolt on his chest. Created by Mike Allred (gorgeous work). You should pick up a copy of Madman or The Atomics if you ever pass by one. Madman is one super hero that's a sure thing for movie success. Fun, bizarre, colorful and heelarious stuff.

Lethargic Lad! See that washed out, round headed dude right between Flaming Carrot and Megaton Man? That's Lethargic Lad. He always saves the day, no worried. Created and owned by Greg Hyland.

Flaming Carrot - I especially like his OutOfBody experience in the afterworld and the "new improved" Flaming Carrot afterwards. This used some concepts that I might have used.

E-Man - unexplained phenomenum.

I haven't seen The Flaming Carrot since 1987, in his battle against beach zombies.

All the more reason he should return!

Wouldn't it be something if he had a movie and the Mystery Men cameoed?

If you're ever curious about what happened to what seemed to be a very promising era in comics, I could send you a few links: heck, here are a couple:

The strange part was that I was around before all of this, so I saw it happen, along with other similar cases.

I love it, that's the best type of reaction to a piece like this one.

Who knew others knew?

StrangestAeons In reply to Lordwormm [2015-05-12 05:03:50 +0000 UTC]

I mean, he's far from my favorite character here, it's just neat to see him again after however many years it's been since I've read it. The tick and Arthur will always hold a special place for me, and megaton man is of course, a work of brilliance.

(As a side note, check by my page soon. I'm doing you up a thing)

I may be late on this reply, but your art was KILLER.Ā

Also,Ā  E-Man's creator is on DA.Ā  Ā  He even sent me a cool note about an E-Man pic I did.Ā  Pretty slick dude, he is.

Herbie & Fatman! Two rarely known characters from my kid days it's neat to see them again. I read both their comics until they fell apart. And my favorite old TV cartoon the Tick! Such fond memories, thanks for making them live again.Ā

Thank you for the compliment!

Oh nice, I love it that he's sucked you in!Ā  I hope you do a little research on some of his adventures.Ā  Such an absurd hero.

He's met the Turtles frequently and Cerberus.Ā

You know, The Mystery Men, yes the movie ones, are from his universe!

The Tick and his sidekick, that superhero parody guy drawn by Don Martin, Bluntman and of course The Worm himself.
