Penumbra was hatched in the lake, originally born to a finn couple but abandoned when the male found out his mate had actually cheated on him when he saw the color of the eggs. Eggs, plural, the other being Penumbra's sibling, Drake . The female left the eggs in a place where her mate wouldn't find them, afraid he would destroy them. She came back for them, but died when they were toddlers due to injuries her mate had inflicted on her, leaving them to learn to fend for themselves.

Penumbra was a bit of a late hatcher with their sibling being born a couple of months before them, but as soon as Penumbra had the ability to move around he became the more responsible and protective of the two. They were bigger and stronger than Drake, and Drake grew to rely on them for guidance. On their part, they adore their sibling and would do anything to make sure they remain safe.
