Usually mechanical and number two wooden ones. I prefer mechanical because I can get a finer edge and such....what do you use?

I prefer Faber-Castell pencils.. I think you should use the hard ones for the outlines and the soft ones for the shades. I also think that hard pencils are not erasable easily because they "scratch" the paper. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Just try out some different types of pencils and practice a lot (:
