Description Aka, the Glory of Power: Day1.

So, I finally decided to come back to Deviant Art. I can’t say that much of the time I spent on hiatus involved art. I watched some YouTube videos here and there and looked around for tips, but that’s about it. However, out of all those YouTube videos dedicated to making you a better artist, the most helpful one came from Pewdiepie, of all people. Sometime last year, he decided he wanted to draw anime girls, gave himself some rules and a time limit, and went for it. The challenge lasted 100 days, I think, and at the end of it he could draw better than half the art community. His progress was amazing. Even though he didn’t set out to teach anyone about art, I think I learned more from that video than all the other art content I’ve consumed for the last few years. It’s kinda funny how stuff like that can just come out of nowhere, not to mention it made me realize that I probably haven’t been looking in the right places for ways to be a better artist.

His methods for reaching the level he did in such a short time were so simple. It shined a light on a lot of the problems I’ve had trying to grow and stay consistent as an artist over the years. I think the biggest issue with me has just been keeping things simple. My art desk is a mess, and I’m surrounded by boxes of art supplies and empty or abandoned sketchbooks and a bunch of other cool art thingies I periodically use and dabble in. Then we get into wanting to use software like Photoshop or Procreate or Clip Studio or Corel Painter (and many others). Then there are all the books that teach you how to be better, and endless information on the internet to look at, and I never realized there were so many methods for drawing the human head. And there’s so many cool things I want to draw that I just can’t decide. At the end of the day, I just end up drawing nothing. There’s so much art shit in my room and in my head that it makes it hard to focus on the action of just drawing.

So, in lieu of Pewdiepie’s success, I’ve decided to adopt a similar challenge. I’ve only got 3 rules set in stone:

The Glory of Power Challenge:
1. Draw Power from Chainsaw Man every day.
2. Draw her for at least 10 minutes.
3. Use only one sketchbook at a time.

March Rules:
1. Use only one tool for drawing (a lead pen this time).
2. Use only the manga as reference (to avoid wasting time on phone).

That’s it, those are the only rules so far. I’ve decided to set a few monthly rules to see how it goes. I tend to want to jump around between different drawing utensils, so I figured using only one this month would help me avoid the stress of deciding each day. Next month, I might try ink. Or markers. Who knows. But anyway, I’m very tired and done prattling on about my problems. I’ll explain more later. Enjoy today’s Power!
