*Midnight meets up with the 3 alicorn Princesses waiting outside Canterlot Castle and greets them before they all head inside and trot along the long hallways*
Celestia: We're so glad that you could make it to represent your mother today, Midnight.
Luna: It means a lot to the griffon dignitaries for all four princesses to be here- even if one had to be represented.
Midnight: Yeah, the Cutie Map acted up last minute with mom's cutie mark, and she knows these things can't be put off.
Cadence: I can't wait to hear all about her adventure when she gets back; *to Celestia* I hope it's someplace nice for when Confusion is sent afterwards to extend the peace treaty.
Celestia: Yes, he's been to so many bleak, formerly hostile places lately, he could use a break from the norm.
*the Princesses and Midnight approach a large and highly decorated door*
Midnight: I'll be honest, I'm pretty nervous. I've never done any 'royal duties' like this before.
Cadence: You'll be fine, it's just a formal luncheon. We'll do most of the mingling with the griffons; you're really just here to represent your mother, the 4th Princess.
*Midnight takes a deep breath and nods, and they enter the Banquet Hall*

*afterwards*
*the Princesses and Griffon Royals emerge from the hall; the Princesses say their goodbyes and thank them for coming as the Griffons leave*
Midnight: *smiles polietly and waves until they are gone, in which she then looks downcast*
Cadence: What's wrong, Midnight?
Midnight: *sighs* Well, that was a nice luncheon, I really enjoyed the food and listening to your conversations, but...
Luna: But?
Midnight: It seems like that's all I did. Listen. Like, you were right Cadence, I was only there to represent my mom. I'm not complaining about not having more purpose or anything, I just... Don't know what my purpose is.
...Aunt Cadence rules the Crystal Empire; Celestia raises the sun, Luna the moon, and you both rule Equestria; mom and her friends spread friendship to other lands, then Fusion extends invitation to the Alliance to those lands; Athena is next in line to rule the Crystal Empire; and I just... learn about magic and represent my mom. I'm not sure if being a Princess is what I'm meant to do- if it's even what I want to do!

Cadence: The simplest resolve would be to follow in Twilight's hoofsteps as the next Princess of Friendship,
Midnight: But I'm not a guru on relationships and friendships; I don't go about spreading friendship and peace everywhere I go! I'm just, not sure I'm qualified for it. I mean, it's different than Athena being the heir to the Crystal Empire throne- being a good leader is something you can learn- but going on crusades spreading the magic of friendship, that takes a certain kind of pony. And I just don't know if I am that pony.
Luna: ...*steps forward* ..It is hard to find who you are and what your purpose is, especially whilst in the shadow of one already so grand; *sheepishly smirks at Celestia* ..but your destiny will become clear in time. It might take some trial and error, it might take confusion and frustration, but eventually it will become clear.
Celestia: *nods with approval and encouragingly puts hoof on Luna's shoulder* Well said, sister. *looks to Midnight* Your time will come, Midnight. Remember that you shape your own destiny; and if you seek it out, eventually you shall find it.
