Description Cute, right! =3
I think this is from last August... around there. I think every five-ish years... thousands of fat yellow caterpillars (White-lined Sphinx Moth caterpillars) come out of our canal and, like, invade our neighborhood. They don't eat anything but this weed called 'willow' something, so it's really great, the cleaned up our entire front flowerbed and most of the backyard. This one was on the street. I rescued him. ^-^ But they're everywhere, man, it's insane. Streets, yards, sidewalks, walls. None get inside the house, though. I dunno where they go, they all sorta... dissapear after about two days.

Here's one as a moth: [link]

Pretty! They disappear because they come up to pupate to become next season's moths.

Yeah I got that much. I don't know exactly how it works, but we've caught them and raised them to moths before. But why only ever five years or so? I would think it happens yearly but it doesn't.

Insect breeding cycles depend on a lot of environmental conditions and sometimes they can be regular and others not.

beautiful colors, i've never seen this species of sphinx moth caterpillar, the last on i raised turned out to be a Pandora's sphinx.

i'm jealous though, we never get huge awesome swarms of big caterpillars, we just get army worms :<

'Cept the horn is on its butt, heh heh.
No, I just found another one that was squished at the time. There was so many you didn't have to wait around for one to get stepped on. And they're too cute to squish intentionally. Lol.

Attacked? They're freaking caterpillars! They crawl and squirm and get squashed in the street. Their strongest attack is throwing up green stuff at you!
