I love this. More than the second one -- no offense to either model or photographer, as both are great, but looking directly at the camera is a vulgar thing that must be bandaged with innocence or expliciteness, in my book of expert photography criticism. (Look mommy, I got a camera! *Click* I see a zebra! *Click* Now I see penguins!)
It's always a little thing that makes or breaks the image for me. I prefer minute details that the average person misses. I tend to see one detail that blesses the image and one that provides a necessary flaw. In this case, it's the streak of red in the hair and the red in the lips. The streak in the hair is perfect -- that's the detail that makes the image more than any lighting or the expression. The lips, in contrast, are slightly too dark, and provide a minor flaw that gives it body. When the eyes shift frequently across an image, it's a success.

the shadowing and red hair ribbons are what makes this piece for me... of course...if my nightmares were like that...well... it wouldn't be a nightmare would it? there is also a certain sense of softness to the piece that i can't put my finger on..but i like it
