truly gorgeous. And again, the aging looks amazing. How do you get that effect?

I use a product called xl gel, which is basically crushed up liver of sulphur in some kind of solution. A little jar of it will last you a long long time. Boil up some water and add a little bit of the gel. Put your piece in for about 3 min and that gives a nice black. Then I use a wheel I made out of scotchbrite pads to take some of the black off the raised surfaces. Voila!

hm, I have access to the crumbly liver of sulfur that dissolves in hot water. I wonder if they are different. Cause I never get a nice even color like that.

I think you still should be able to get a reasonable finish with the chunks, make sure the metal is nice and clean and the water is hot. But it might be worth getting a container of the xl gel, I think it's only about $12 and it'll last you a long time. What type of metal were you trying to darken?

I was thinking of playing around with aging copper and brass, I may just get some of that stuff. Maybe it reacts more evenly than the gritty stuff.

Yeah, I'd give it a go for sure. It could even be that the liver of sulphur you are using is old, from what I have heard, it doesn't stay good for a real long time. Another plus of the XL gel, -supposedly it lasts longer.

Wow, steady hand you've got. Where do you get your sheets of metal from? I used to know a silversmith but never got around to asking her and I've been dying to muck around with something of my own.

You're in Aus right? I get most of my copper and brass sheet and wire from A+E metal merchants, I think they're in Sydney. If you google them you'll find em. Their prices are pretty good. I also find bits and pieces of copper and brass, melt them down and make new sheet with it, but that's quite a bit more involved.
Any other questions, I'm happy to help.
