I think Thorax has become one of my favorite characters. The show unfortunately failed to expand on his character outside of his debut episode and the season 6 finale. They could have done so much more with him! I admire his bravery for leaving the hive and trying to find his own path/find a way to sate his hunger in a peaceful way. I do agree his reformation was sort of rushed (minus any off-screen moments/possibilities between S2 finale and his debut) and the show didn't really take advantage of him as much as I personally think they should. While I think being shown true friendship while watching the main 6 fight off his brethren is a good start, I think there should have been more reasons as to why he would leave everything behind. Maybe it took until season 6 for him to appear because he was in an inner battle with himself on whether to leave his mother and siblings. I mean he was raised there. He had to have conflicted thoughts. Should he stay loyal to his queen and siblings despite not liking the means of which they sate their hunger? Or should he risk it all, even his own life, to try and find a better way? When someone is born different and/or thinks differently in a society with set rules and expectations, it's going to take time for that one person to turn on everything he was taught and be himself. Hiccup spent many years yearning for acceptance, then finding out he just can't be like the strong viking stereotype that is set in that world. It took meeting and bonding with Toothless for several months to realize his true talents and discover who he really is.
In my eyes, Thorax must've gone through a whole lot to leave the hive. You can't just see a display of friendship and immediately decide to run off and find a way to share love. True I think Thorax naturally thought differently from his kin but his loyalty to his siblings and queen is also a strong part of him. There has to be a process that explains how Thorax went from random changeling drone to the brave individual that proved that the world isn't black and white. He would have to consider so many things such as betraying his queen and kin, leaving behind everything he knew, and risking death because he refuses to steal the love away from ponies. I do not believe that Thorax could've survived so long without feeding once in a while after the Canterlot Wedding. If he didn't feed, he would've been long dead by now. Or as I first pointed out, he could've left the hive at a later date and wandered back to somewhere near the Crystal Empire.

I agree completely with you. Thorax could have done so much more, but it just
looked like it was cut short.
Where did he learn about what friendship means? He must have had a source
from where he could gain that knowledge. I am sure he can't have figured it all out
by himself, just by watching the mane 6 fighting the Changelings. He can't have
learned it from his hive either, since none of his fellow changeling siblings know
what friendship really is..
What was needed was perhaps his 'journey'..
As you said, it must have been really hard for him to leave his hive and his queen
behind like that and knowing he would become a traitor. He must have known the
consequences, but he still pulled through. Also, for all he knew, he would have
starved to death, since it might not have worked out the way he thought it would.
By now I don't think we ever will get to see his journey and the conflicts it brought
with it..
Thorax is not the only character which has been kind of 'cut off' from the main
storyline. Another character that I think needs her special moment is Zecora.
She has been close to non existing since the first seasons, which I think is a shame.
Her story about where she came from and why she left from there could have been
really interesting as well. Also why she decided to live as secluded as she does in the
Everfree.
There are very many things that could have been shown and hopefully some things
will at a later time.

Thanks for replying. I have stopped following the series completely because I guess I just got tired of it, at least with the filler episodes. These days I'm kinda more interested in the deep plots of the season premires and finale's. I stopped after Slice of life. I haven't stopped tracking the series all together though. I know that there are some really good episodes because I skimmed over or actually watched ones all the way through. I still sort of know what's going on but I don't watch all the episodes anymore. What do you think about how Hasvro handled Thorax and the other changelings. I kinda preferred the changelings the way they were instead of being changed.

I wanted Thorax the way he was instead of the new king. He's just become limited and I wish they took a different direction instead of totally changing him and his race. The whole point of his debut episode is not being judged with what he was, despite what his hive did. In a way, they kinda weakened that lesson when they changed the changelings.

I did watch the leaked episodes and I don't really like they way the
changelings look now. I would have preferred them the way they
were too, since it made them different and not like all the others
(kind of). I know they have those bug features still, but their 'dark'
form was what I liked most.

I kinda wished the season was more focused on Thorax after his debut episode. It would've been a good chance if place and we could learn admire about him and changelings in general
