I believe she looks badass!
And to throw a bit of a theory on what I believe for the possible existence of real mermaids, (because we barely know five percent of what lives in it!) I personally think that mermaids wouldn't have hair, I think it would be replace by something that looks almost shell-like in appearance.

Basically, Hans was in love with his best friend growing up, when his best friend got married to another Hans was very upset and wrote the little mermaid, basically placing himself as the little mermaid and his Best friend as the prince BD )
