Description
I’ve been getting a lot of messages asking if I can help out with drawing problems and I’ve also been refreshing my own drawing practice so I decided to make this super quick tutorial. If people deem it helpful I’ll make more in the future.

I did this 3 minute sketch on Photoshop, but I use the same process with traditional mediums such as graphite or paint.
When I start a drawing, I usually talk to myself. I know that sounds strange, but it works. It’s usually in the same tone my life drawing professor would explain what we were seeing while the class was busy looking at a naked figure.
I remind myself to lay down a line of action before anything. After that I mark key points such as the top of the head and where the feet rest. This helps to keep the figure on the page, and helps later in establishing sizes for comparison.
I tend to use a combination of lines a shapes. I lay down large shapes and then I go in and add some gestural lines. In Photoshop, you can see that I use color to block in large areas, usually shadows or highlights. This helps me to find my light source and to further correct the figure.
After that it’s a matter of lining up figurative landmarks.
