Description
'The Warnings in the Sky' (2021) is a work I did for my assessment a few months ago. My work is based on the blood moon, also known as the lunar eclipse. I was mainly influenced by Katsushika Hokusai to make my very first woodblock print. This allowed me to multiply the image of the moon, as I wanted it to convey a sense of fear, danger and alert of having a red circle in the sky. Similar to the red sun seen in Australia which was caused by severe bushfires, seeing a red circle in the sky is abnormal, hence it causes fear.I used black printing ink, acrylic paints and watercolours. I wanted to play with textures and used cling wrap on acrylic paint and sprayed water on the watercolours, to create unexpected markings. I am also still trying to learn how to print as the lines are not very solid, but does create interesting textures.
