"Little witch"? Is Hermione actually smaller than average for her age and sex? Or is this scene taking place when she's still a little girl--say, twelve or less?
I ask because I'M considerably smaller than average, and to me the word "little" always sounds condescending, whether it's meant that way or not.

I'm sorry, I can't recall her age at this point of the story! However, I chose this title to emphasis the fact that she's still a witch in practice, and also the great difference of age between her and Snape. As for her height in general, I don't really like Harry Potter, so you should ask a fan!
You should not worry about the "average", by the way, you just have to go in another part of the world to be tall or small!

JKR never actually specifies the height of either Hermione or Severus, so I assume they're both average: 5'4" for women in the UK and 5'9" for men. Hermione will automatically be smaller than Severus because average-size women are smaller than average-size men, so referring to her as little and him as big is redundant. ')
