With Kion having passed the Roar of the Elders to Vitani, he soon realized he never had had proper roaring lessons from his father, King Simba. His roar now sounded like a kittens meow to himself, having no where near the magnitude of power the Roar of the Elders had.
Kovu saw Kion's frustration one day, and approached him.
"Hey, is...something bothering you, Kion?" He asked.
Kion let our a sharp exhale. "Yes...no, I....grrr...yeah, I guess so...Ever since giving up the roar, I feel like I have nothing to help protect the Night Pride when I get back to Rani."
Kovu chuckled. "It takes more than a roar to defend the ones you love." He replied. It didn't seem to help Kion feel any better.
"Your sister once taught me how to have fun....We roared our way through the Pridelands and I'd never felt so alive in all my life. Maybe you need to have some fun, and you'll be able to find your new roar. Come on, I know a great place to start."
Kovu lead Kion to the gorge, and told him to roar. The sound echoed and bounced off the walls of the ravine, and Kion looked pleased for the first time, even letting out a small laugh.
"When you master your new roar, it will sound like this, even at the top of the gorge, in the wide open plains. Watch." Kovu said. They climbed to the top together, and Kovu let out a huge roar that could be heard for miles. Kion was stunned, and very impressed.
For the rest of the day, Kovu helped Kion find his new roar, until he felt ready to defend those he loved with it, again.
