Funny enough, "Gai-Jin" doesn't just mean "Foreigner".
It's original meaning was meant to describe the first foreigners who arrived in Japan. At the time, the Japanese thought that it was absolutely digusting to wear furs, like the foreigners did, and bathing was definitely an issue, hence the original meaning of "One who smells of wet sheep and filth". Nowadays, though, it simply means "foreigner".
