Description A while back I submitted "Prom Queen". I was going through some of my old pieces and happened to come across the scratchboard version (which I had never submitted for some reason. So, here it is (also my first print!).

i don't think i got to comment you on this but, I love how this scratchboard came out!! Um, I'll be a first timer to work with scratchboards, I'm not a total noobie to it but if you can share some pointers or tips to prevent major mistakes, I'd really appreciate it. How is it working negatively?-- like what 'forgetfulrainn' said, it does seem quite overwhelming.. is it totally different from working with pen?-- thnx doll-face!

Lol, thank you! This was actually the first scratchboard piece I did. I haven't worked with it much since. All I can really say is find a good assortment of scratching nibs and play around with them to see what suits you best. It's sort of like working with pen, but in reverse. You're exposing the lights rather than the darks.

I don't know what you did this with exactly - I imagine some sort of ballpoint thingy - but you do master that media like a true mofo! I'm jealous.

Actually, the original piece was in ballpoint. it's a lot smoother. This is definately scratchboard. Lol, ty!

Scratchboard? What is that? (Forgive my ignorance, I am but a humble amateur painter.)

Its paper with a black surface. There are tools made to scratch away at it to make designs. It's basically working negatively. So all the white you see was scratched away.

Ah yes, I did see that, but I thought that you used a black pen and a white pen or something. Working negatively sounds quit daunting. You do this only to show off! I bet you scratched this away UPSIDE DOWN while juggling eggs with your bare feet! Admit it!

More seriously, that's really impressive. It is!
