i love johannes in this shot. he definitely gives off a sense of narcissism. the colors are marvelous and i love the pearls he's holding out. they have an almost surreal look to them for some reason. his hair is just perfect against the background.

The colors are bold and beautiful, much better than the other version of this shot. I love how the yellow in the hair plays on to the skin.
Also, meant or not, I read a very profound message in this one.
It's calling to question everything we think we know about what makes a woman a woman, and thus everything we think we know about gender and ourselves.
The model is dressed as a stereotypical woman. She's got the (fake) blonde hair, the looks, the red lips, the obsession with pretty, expensive things (pearls). She looks to the pearls and seems to ask, "must it be like this?" which is further emphasized by her puling them away from her body--as if she is trying to get free of them and what they represent. The fact that it is a male model asking these questions in the guise of a woman asks us to challenge the mainstream gender definitions and assumptions. I think the location of the shot, in a bathroom (which are divided by sex/gender), speaks to the division and inequality produced by gender assumptions and restrictions.
