Description ~~~ Disney Moments: The Little Mermaid - Part of Your World ~~~
(Created 07.10)

WOW! I think that’s the most beautiful thing I ever drew in my life. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to sound full of myself, on the contrary - I’m actually surprised at myself, I never knew I had it in me.
This is NOT how I planned it to be. I got carried away… AGAIN. It was suppose to look like a still from the movie. I have no idea how it turned like this. I can’t believe I actually drew that damn rock. I don’t like doing backgrounds (Btw, the seaweed is mostly the butterfly brush in PS). I lost patience with the splash – it supposes to look as if it were animation and therefore its colors are flat. Please don’t remark on it (unless it’s super ugly and I really need to fix it )
This was inspired by my good friend ‘s beautiful artwork: nippy13.deviantart.com/art/Ari…

---
Most of us I, believe, don’t remember much from our childhood, only special and significant event that happened to us.
As for me, I may remember the first day of school and some other events, but there’s one moment etched in my mind that I probably won’t forget till the day I die.

I was about 9 years old (I was born in 1980) and The Little Mermaid just came out. Back then I didn’t understand what animation was, what the heck is Disney and I don’t even remember going to the cinema to watch the film, less who took me there and with whom I went.
BUT! I do remember one moment, as clear as it happened yesterday, and that moment was when Ariel was on the rock singing “I don’t know when, I don’t know how…”
I remember the chair I was sitting in, it was a big dark brown chair, cause I was just a little girl. I remember is was dark cause the movie was playing. And when Ariel was raising herself up and her hair was blowing in the wind and she was singing and the water splashed behind her, I remember staring at the screen with my mouth open and my heart beating, as if I were transfixed, enchanted, bewitched, call it whatever you like.
Btw, I even saw it in Hebrew (hey, I was only 9) and it was still amazing! The music was enchanting and the Israeli voice actor (Rama Mesinger) did a pretty good job! (I see her on television here and there and it’s so cool, cause it’s as if Ariel is talking). Nothing compare to the amazing JODI BENSON, but still quite good. It was the music of Alan Manken that got me hooked and I believe that tune will work in any language.
I remember months or even years after I saw the movie day dreaming and humming that tune to myself all the time. I felt just like Eric, I just couldn’t get that tune out of my head. I had to see her again… and again… and again… and again…

The Little Mermaid is one of the biggest influences of my life. I don’t even think I would have been here right now and the way I am right now, if it weren’t for that movie. It’s one of the main reasons why I’m an animator. It’s one of the main reasons why I love animation so much. And that specific moment is probably one of my favorite, maybe my most favorite part of the movie and from all animation out there.

So as a tribute to that moment I present to you this humble art. May this movie inspire you as it inspired me to create beautiful, classic and enchanting artwork you can share with the world.

Thank you for listening and viewing my work.
Your humble servant,
Liron.

A couple of hours over a few days I think. Hey! It’s Ariel, I wasn’t really paying attention

First off, this piece is fantastic! The emotions and colors are right on and the background (sky) is simple yet very effective! Bravo!

My one suggestion is that you work with the proportions a bit more. While Im not sure if you were trying to use foreshortening on her tail or not, something is a little off. If you look at the size of he head and them move down her body, I found it starting to get a little to small for comfort around where scales begin at her waist. And then the tail just makes me really uncomfortable, meaning that it kind of throws the picture off for me.

So my only recommendation is that you maybe look at the picture from a but of a distance and try to figure out how to make the tail look a little bigger in comparison to the rest of her body. Having watched the movie many times as a child and up, I remember that Ariel's tail is about the same size as two human legs pressed to eachother (like standing with ankle to ankle) + her fins. So I guess try to imagine legs inside her tail and see where that get you.

Overall though, a very lovely atmosphere and again, beautiful colors! Im a fan of your art and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future!

Note: My suggestions are purely what I felt when I saw the picture. It is entirely up to the artist to accept or ignore them. I hope I was any help!

Thank you for your time writing your comment.
About the tail - it's kind of a perspective thing. we don't look at her from the full side, it's a bit 45, but since she leans her head to the side it's a bit confusing, I understand. Maybe I could make it a bit longer. Ok, for next time.
Thank you again.
Liron.

Your work is so beautiful, and I really understand what you mean about getting hooked on this movie at a young age (I'm only a year older than you, so I was around your age too when the movie came out) and how it can change you. I watched that movie three times a day during the summer it came out on home video. I couldn't get enough of it. I still love it. It touches something deep inside me when I hear its music.  I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. (And I can only imagine how beautiful it would sound in Hebrew.)

Haha, I started reading your comment at the bottom of one of your works... was it about Esmeralda? , and I thought "this person has a similar pov as I do" so I went through Meg and now Ariel.

Man, I do remember the first time I saw the movie, and it was so beautiful, and the song, so entrancing, and I wanted to paint it so much, but never had the chance and the skills (I was very-very young) ... and now I, when I think I can actually do it, it is no longer inspiring - I always have something else on my mind, something my own... so looking at your work is very satisfactory, like I know someone else can express what I was feeling, so thanks for the images! ... and I'm glad you wrote all the comments, for it wouldn't be the same if you just said, "PS, 30 hours" or something alone those lines.

I would give you a legit critique but I'm not premium ;_;

I'm really impressed with this--you've given the super-easy-to-frankenpaint Disney style your own personal touches! I really love the angle of her face; I feel it's an especially hard viewpoint to draw from, and you nailed it. Her expression is also awesome, because it says so much and gives the piece another layer of meaning: emotion!

I have only two small complaints:
1, Something about the length of her tail just doesn't sit right with me. I feel like it's too short, or the foreshortening is off somehow.
2, The water splashing up, to me, doesn't really fit with the rest of the piece as far as the style it's done in. Ariel herself is soft, and barely fits in the "cartoon" category, however, the water is very cartoony. Is it cell-painted, by any chance? That's the vibe I'm kind of getting from it. Maybe a more Studio Ghibli-style water would look better? It might just be my personal preference, but the water looks like it was pasted on from another piece in another style.

Ok, my non-legit stars
Vision: 5/5. Definitely. This piece looks like you had something and you didn't stop until you found it.
Originality: 4/5. The only reason it's not 5 is because I've seen Ariel on a rock singing with waves splashing about a hundred times. You did give it your own touch, though!
Technique: 4.5/5. You are a skilled artist, definitely. There is always room for improvement, though, and I don't think I'd give anyone 5/5 on technique. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I think when you stop trying to improve, you stop creating art.
Impact: 5/5. Like I said, I feel like I've seen this pose a billion times, but yours made me stop and here the song in my head and get goosebumps. Your colors, the highlights, the glare of the sun...I don't know what did it, but it got to me in a very good way

I would give you a real one if I could!! I love your art, never ever stop making it!

But I will be making Enchanted if that helps... he he.

aw. But I know you can.
But, yeah. It's hard to recreate 3D into 2D especially the realistic 3D hair will turn into a yellow shape in the pic.

But I'm practicing to paint realistic hair but still can't get it right.

Rapunzel will join the Disney Princes royal court on August, from my sources. Please please make one!

I'll think about it. But anyway, I might be doing Rapunzel fanart with no relation to the Disney moments series.
I'll add it to my list and see as I go. He he, you avatar is literally forcing me into it
