Description This is a colored version of this drawing from my scraps, with a background added as well. It's Austra, as a secret agent! I gave her her natural hair color here because as a spy, she needs to keep a low profile, and having neon pink hair kind of interferes with that. She's about to use an amazing spy gadget which is hidden in that size 33 shoe of hers. It could be a lock pick, or a listening device, or a tiny camera, or just about anything. It's definitely not a shoe phone, though. Those are obsolete now that the shoe BlackBerry is out. *rimshot*

In addition to furthering her mission, I'm sure Austra is enjoying the fringe benefit of relieving some of the stress on her right foot.

And here I thought Austra kept her necessities
in her pouch... I guess it was because of the
little black Gucci dress and how it fit her.

Now it makes sense, though.

LQCTim In reply to Wallaroo [2008-08-06 02:22:34 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Austra doesn't keep stuff in her pouch because... well, she doesn't have a pouch. She used to when I first designed her and her body structure was very similar to that of a real kangaroo. Later, when I gave her a much more humanoid body shape, I thought the pouch looked weird with that body, so I stopped drawing it on her.

Thanks for the fave!

"We call it the swiss army shoe." -Naked Gun

Where is she spying into exactly? My guess would be a government building of some sort given those PC handles.

Kudos on the cloths for looking form fitting, without them looking either stiff or tights like. Great job.

I love the "Naked Gun" movies.

I never really nailed down exactly where Austra is spying, but I have sort of a vague notion that she's in Dival Rohinas' office complex. Dival is one of the villains in my comic. She's a big real estate mogul who uses her company as a front for illegal activity. Her ultimate goal is to overthrow Queen Turja and take her throne. That's tentative, by the way--I haven't quite nailed down Dival's whole deal either.

Thanks for your compliments on her clothes. I do love a lady in a sharp business suit, so I want to make sure I get that suit just right.

What a really awesome pose! Nice to see backside views once a while! ^_^ A size 33, but I wonder which shoe measuement system is it determined from!

LQCTim In reply to spitzen [2008-05-24 19:12:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I was really happy with the way this pose turned out.

I actually Googled up a chart of U.S. women's shoe sizes by foot length, but for Austra, I had to extrapolate the chart! I arrived at the size of 33 from the fact that Austra's feet are 18 inches long. 18-inch-long feet may be hard to fathom, but keep in mind that Austra is very tall to begin with (6'10"), and that kangaroos tend to have oversized feet. In fact, her stocking foot doesn't look as long as it actually is because of the foreshortening.

Good work on the subtle shading here. Like on the door. The details on her hand are particular good, the palm makes it look like a interesting human hand/paw hybrid. Which works well for a semi-anatomical anthro character I suppose.

Thanks. I knew I needed some nice shadows to create the proper atmosphere, and I managed to find a gradient I liked.

I've been practicing on the side to get the pads on my anthro hand-paws to look good. I think I've just about gotten it right.

This is a good pic. The pose and the angle we are seeing her from are very different and that is refreshing. There is also a good bit of foeshortening which makes the pose work. Her head seems a little large for her body and I would have liked to see her off hand resting on the door for balance but it is a very nice pic. Must have been challenging to draw.

LQCTim In reply to Eggplantm [2008-05-19 15:36:16 +0000 UTC]

This pic was kind of tricky to draw--I think. It's difficult to remember because I drew the original sketch a few years ago. It started off as one of those quick sketches on which I randomly get lucky and nail a challenging pose. (For every one of those, I have 100 crappy ones. ) After I scanned it in recently, I adjusted the color so that the whole thing was non-photo blue and printed it out at full-page size. I fixed the glaring problems with pencil, inked over that, and then scanned it back in. From there, I just colored it as usual.

Her hair and her ears make it tough to judge the size of her head, but I think you may be right about it being too large. Since you mentioned it, it probably would have looked better with her hand braced against the door, but I didn't even envision the door being there in the original sketch. This particular background was a late addition. Fortunately, Austra, being a world-class athlete, has incredible balance and can stand on one leg for a long time with no problem--even in high heels.

Thanks for the fave!

WolfenX [2008-05-19 04:06:19 +0000 UTC]

Wow....what looked great as a sketch looks incredible in color! Thanks for making the extra effort!

You know, one possibility is that maybe her feet are just killing her, and she's giving her sore tootsies a break

Another thing I find remarkable is that her head-hair appears to be the exact same color as her fur. Perhaps that's one reason why she dyes it such a radical color? Personally, I think she'd look pretty nice with dark brown mahogany hair. Blonde, not so much!

LQCTim In reply to WolfenX [2008-05-19 05:26:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, this one was a labor of love.

And you know, spying is really tough work, especially in nine-inch heels. So much so that Austra would be willing to increase her risk of being detected by taking a moment just to relax her feet? Possibly!

Regarding her hair color, that's how I've always colored most, if not all, of my anthro characters--at least the furry ones. The hair color is the same as the fur color. I see the hair as extra-long fur. The dark mahogany hair seems like an interesting thing to try, and it should be pretty easy to do in Paint Shop Pro.

From viewing your art, I have noticed that you have a very simplistic style to the linework and the paint, but what you do with them is pure quality! This one definitely shows it! The body composition is right on along with her facial expression. You should think about making a Flash cartoon or a game with your characters!

LQCTim In reply to D-WRECK [2008-05-19 05:47:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I'd like to do more complex coloring now and then, with smoother shading, but so far I can't find an efficient way to do it. But with the techniques I do have, well, I do what I can.

I have numerous games in various stages of development, but none feature the Lizard Queen Chronicles characters. There are no words to express how much I'd love to do a game with those characters. Multiple games, in fact. But I never seem to find the time to work on my games. These days, my artwork takes precedence.

D-WRECK In reply to LQCTim [2008-05-20 03:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I know there are some tutorials online for the shading techniques. It would be cool to see your characters in a video game, Tim. You should set some time out for that even though you don't think you have the time. If you don't have the time, make the time. I know, I know easier said than done...Anyway, give it a few hours on a rainy day

LQCTim In reply to D-WRECK [2008-05-20 04:39:17 +0000 UTC]

I keep forgetting about all those tutorials out there. Hopefully I can find a few I can use with Paint Shop Pro.

I'd love to make a 3-D fighting game with my LQC characters, much like Tekken. But I just don't have the resources to make a game like that. And my programming skills are limited to sprite-based games. (I wish I'd had the discipline to stick with Comp Sci as my major in college.) I'm not sure what kind of sprite-based game I'd like to make with the LQC characters.
