Description

Twilight Of Life or Vallis Silentium

Planet: Orrina-Estro
Sorrounding objects (shown):
- Planetoid (sister planet): Orrina Minoris
- Largest moon: Dikkasj
Star: Abigus - 2nd grade G-Class
Solar system: Abigan
Region: Helari
Sector: Vai'Kira

This valley, Valley Of Silence, is one of the most distinct sites within the entire explored Imperial space. This unusual dale is formed at the end of ice age when the vast mountain lake broke during the strong earthquake. Water from it washed away almost everything in her wake, ravaging till the Northern ocean. The Layer of soil that water washed was somewhere even a few hundred meters thick. Testimony to this are thousands of those strange pillars, which are the only formations left behind throughout the valley.
Even more extraordinary fact is that this pillars are hollow but sturdy tubes, a remnants of the geysers which covered the entire valley before that region got struck by that earthquake and flood. This can be proven by the few still active tubes from which water still emerges, just to fall again way down, right to the lake surface.
Lake which covers almost entire view, and above which in the distance lingers planet Orrina Minoris together with her faithful follower-moon Dikkasj, is actually only a few meters deep.
Despite the fact that Orrina-Estro is inhabitable and has mild climate, only a few regions far down to the south are populated.
This area is rather moist and heavy rains are common. Thanks to this, various types of vegetation are flourishing, from tall grass and thorny bushes to the bioluminescent fungi and glowing flower-like creatures which are actually something between plants and animals. Concerning animals, there almost aren't any. Therefrom the silence is - except a few wind howls and a silent waves murmur, nothing else can be heard around.

This region (same as a few other works in my gallery) is a part of the complex world created in book I'm writing. Main character of my story is in that ship in the middle, running away from rebel captivity, but his ship was damaged during the escape and he crashes somewhere in this shallow waters...

This picture is entirely made using PS7 and Genius WizardPen 4X3 tablet. It took me about 30-35 hours to finish this – don't look me like that, this is my first tablet-made picture yet (OK, not quite – that stone before was the first )

- I know that, compared to my other works, this looks like not mine. So, here's the proof: [LINK]

- There's also an earlier, but a little bit different sketch: [LINK]

- And big thanks to as she pointed me to a beautiful song her good friend made, which is also called the same name, and it perfectly fits aside this pic! Thank you thank you Sébastien Marchal for awesome song that can be found here: [LINK]

Soon, there will be more pictures like this one

Chromattix [2009-11-09 06:10:17 +0000 UTC]

I read your description on how they formed and it sounds plausible, though one day the stresses of frequent rain and geyser activity is going to break down those pillars It's like the 12 Apostles in Southern Australia's coast, some have already fallen, so enjoy them while they last

The clouds flaring up near the sun is very realistic too

ltdalius In reply to Chromattix [2009-11-09 20:49:07 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately yes, as many of them are already broken... All things will perish eventually, and so will this valley...
- But for now is still there, same as this beautiful place [link] - Thank you for widening my horizons, too, as i never actually knew there really was a place pretty similar to my imagination - You ever been there?

Thanks for everything man

I havn't been there, I havn't really visited many interesting places at all. All my inspiration comes from what I see in pictures rather than real life

ltdalius In reply to Chromattix [2009-11-11 01:19:15 +0000 UTC]

A very good, yet very stylized composition. What I like most about this is the rich and deep colours and the atmosphere of it all.
A good friend of mine who is a musician composed a song called Twilight of Life. Through it I always imagine a bluish dark, night time landscape, but this works as well.

If you're interested here's the link to the song: [link]

Hey there ^___^

I remembered that i never thanked you for the song you sent me. - I listened it over and over again, letting it carry my thoughts to that distant world... -- song is amazing - sound of wind and waves and all - simply beautiful and it perfectly complements the atmosphere!

- Send hi and thanks to your friend, and please ask him if i can put the link to the song in the comment of this pic, as more people should hear it!
