INKTOBER 2016 day 23

Coloured acrylic inks (ultramarine, red)
Salt
Watercolour paper
23*30.5cm

Continuing with the texture experiments, still shocked
It left the paper as white as it was before I washed it with ink...
I wanted to make a flower bouquet, and in the end, because of the shape and colours, made me think of hydrangeas ^^

I want to make a more complex drawing for today (24), still thinking about it.

I love hydrangea flowers!
And I really like the colour palette on this one - the blues and purples here are very lovely. A fitting palette for real hydrangea flowers. But I really need to put in a word for the salt technique. It worked out very nicely here!

Well done!

It actually works different with ink than with watercolour!!!

I also think it lacks the very blue blue of the blue blue hudrangeas
But I didn't have one

That's OK. You did a great job with what you have on hand. And no one can ask more from you!
I didn't know there's a difference between ink and watercolour when it comes to the salt-effect. What's the difference?

See by yourself ^^
I don't know exactly, but the watercolour gives a more blurry and expanded effect
While he ink will leave sharp edges and be sucked to white
(the coloured dots in the middle of the white shape are due to the fact that I used big salt, not table salt)

Thanks for the examples! I can definitely see the difference here.
It looks like the ink version has a different surface tension and shows sharper and more distinct lines. I do like the effect you can get with the bigger salt crystals. I think it looks really nice!

the fun thing with salt is that you will NEVER get the same result
look here:

all were made in one session. the top left one was made by me, the other by my fiend. Not even close to be the same, texture wise

Well... you are definitely right. There's no way to replicate the same look even if you tried! But I guess that's what makes each piece individual and special, right? Either way, I like how they turned out. And if watercolour and I aren't such bad companions, I might even try this some time in the future myself.

... I wouldn't mind trying it with ink, however. Ink and I get along a little better.

haha I don't get it
What's wrong with watercolour?
Ink is the devil
Becareful, it stains very fast, you can see on this very piece some blue stains where it's supposed to be white: I used too concentrated ink and it stained the paper immediately

There's nothing wrong with watercolour. It's just that watercolour and I aren't best friends, that's all.
We go all the way back, but we have had a long and troubled past. Now we respect each other but we can't be together...

Ink... well... ink is difficult to work with. But ink and I have had a long story together, too. And we seem to be able to make it work a little better. I am not fully sure why. I guess it's like a relationship, you know? Even if a person is very nice and very beautiful... sometimes it just doesn't work out very well.

Oh, dear... It sounds like I only have romantic relationships with paper and ink!

oh my pieces look different on my both screens, so I really don't know who to believe.
I'm gonna recieve some prints soon, we'll maybe get the truth...

But... but... you have the original pieces next to you screen , You can say more accurately which displays the closest colors .

yes but this doesn't matter since it will always look different depending on who's looking at them
the prints however, these won't change

I wouldn't be too sure about that, but from experience even impressions differ from the actual color
