NOTE: I'm posting this after I asked James Roberts, writer for IDW's MTMTE, for permission to post it. He agreed with it, so I shared this interpretation of a mask-less Tarn here and on Twitter.Feel free to share your interpretations in comments as well. I love to hear about fellow fans' ideas.
Also, feel free to use this idea in your fanfiction/fanart. No need to ask for permission.

I'm starting to believe that theory, too (Tarn being Roller modified by Megatron). I tried to maintain a neutral approach so far, but that theory is really growing on me now... (I blame the fanarts and some chats with friends xD)

He is... He's a mess inside. Not sure, but probably he's not entirely evil, mostly misguided. (Just my opinion, though.)

Massacring thousands and thousands of bots for raw material? Slaughtering their team member without a second thought? Hunting down and executing Decepticons that don't follow the code anymore and possibly are more the good guys now? Being sadist with his voice ability? Uhm, yup, he's evil all right.

Thanks. I probably drew him with too 'gentle' a face, but the character's development suggests (at least, to me) that he might not be entirely evil, so maybe there's a gentle side to him...? No idea, but it fit my interpretation, I guess.
