After so much time without drawing a mermaid, the unique work of a dear friend and artist inspired me to do it. It was a wonderful experience! And here you can see the mermaid Melina, at night, wearing a ring. But can you imagine why is she looking at it or where did it come from? I would love to see what are your hypothesis!

As a reference, I used a really old sketch of a nymph I did for a personal project I never finished. My idea was to create a monochromatic digital painting with shades of blue, except for three elements: her eyes (yellow), a yellowish spot on her tail and the ring (golden and red) and its glow. At first, the scene would happen in the middle of a sunny day. But while I was testing a few colors and effects, the sky turned dark by accident, and I immediately understood that the night would be the perfect choice! Now the scene is much more magical and mysterious (and maybe more poetic and tender). And to enhance this effect, I opted to paint her with bright and light colors, and add some glow to them and around her as well, so then it looks like she has bioluminescence or is a sort of ghostly entity or illusion.
