Description Saint John the Baptist, also known as John the Baptizer, is a central figure in Christianity, revered as a prophet and forerunner of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist's life is primarily documented in the New Testament of the Bible, particularly in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.According to the Bible, John was born to elderly parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth, who were both descendants of the priestly line of Aaron. His birth was announced by the angel Gabriel to his father Zechariah, who was serving as a priest in the temple.John began his ministry in the wilderness of Judea, preaching repentance and baptizing people in the Jordan River. He called people to prepare for the coming of the Messiah and to repent of their sins. One of the most significant events associated with John the Baptist is his baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. According to the Gospels, when Jesus came to John to be baptized, John initially objected, feeling unworthy to baptize the Messiah. However, Jesus insisted, and after the baptism, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove, and a voice from heaven declared, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
