bending the compositional rules in photography
i did wonder if the central positioning could ever work, but after submitting it to a few other galleries like my flickr i was encourage to submit it here to cos i recieved positive feedback
one kind gentleman told me that the unusual composition 'makes it look more like a highland castle and less like a tourist trap' which i think quite a compliment considering how photographed this castle is!
hope many of you will too enjoy this more unconventional view of the famous castle

This is beautiful beyond words.It looks like it's been taken from a tale.Doesn't look like a tourist trap at all honestly,it looks like a rather isolated area.I love the castle's rusty colours compared to the colours of the lake and background,they complete each other perfectly
Anyway,you did very very well and laws/rules are meant to be broken anyway,no?

to me the central position is perfect here, since the surroundings of the castle are so different on each side.. like the castle is sort of in the midst of two different worlds, separating them.
(uhm, is my english even making sense? lol hope you get what i mean)

I only just noticed that a Castles Calendar i have in my Kitchen has Eilean Donan Castle for June, there image is almost same perspective as yours, but i am Happy to tell you that when i saw it told my Wife that there is a far superior photo of the Castle on dA, This One!
I don`t mean to blow sunshine up your bum, just thought you would like to know.

oo yes I do like the unusual view of this castle! Actually, I like this view better than the common photographs. I agree with what that reviewer said, and that's what I like about a lot of your photographs... how they have the ancient feeling to the scenes...

It's very nice, and it's not that far from the rule of thirds as it may appear. And it's more of a guideline than a rule.

Even though you are focused on your main subject of the structure. There are many other elements in this comp that are as equally important. The reflection on the water. The leading lines of the bridge, the sky and clouds, even the small single tree. In reality I would not see this as a central location shot at all, but a rich scape with depth and balance.
