White background OMG are you bleepin' kidding me? Well, everybody knows I'm a dinosaur of fractal art realm who forgot to die with the rest of the 2D brood. Let's go further back to the past and use white backgrounds, they used to be popular back in 2007 or something Send your complaints to Ramón Pasternak, his art inspired me to do this oh-so-bold move.

Thank you for all favourites, comments, critiques and devwatches! It means a lot to me.

Overall

Impact

Scrolling through your gallery, this fractal caught my eye! I like it a lot for its simplicity and color palette!

Coloring

The blue and gold color scheme was a good pick for this fractal. I like how the gold and blue are on opposite sides of the rift to emphasize the contrast.

It is nice how there’s rings of blue hiding behind the gold rings! This reminds me of eyes peering out of a peephole

I especially the bright patch on the gold parts of the fractal. The “blue and gold” of this fractal looks like blue + gold metal, rather than blue + yellow!

And that light blue ring in the middle of the blue rings on the right: I really like that subtle change in color.

Background

As someone who is new to Apophysis, so white backgrounds are new to me! In this case, the white background works well with this color palette. If it were a typical black background, there would not be enough contrast between the blue and the background.

Shape

I like these nested rings! What variation(s) are you using for that? I am guessing that has something to do with spherical or bipolar since it involves circles? (I am still trying to learn how to identify Apophysis variations in others’ work)
This shape reminds me of circles in the complex plane. I am taking a course in Complex Variables, so I will be learning about this topic soon.

Technique

It hard for me to comment on this one since I cannot see the parameters, but I will try my best.

This fractal has a clean look. However, I do notice the rings are a bit blurry at the right edge. Sharp lines everywhere would be an improvement.

I would also suggest hiding more of the background lines to make this pattern look cleaner and simpler. What makes this fractal good is its minimalist design. Emphasizing this a little bit more would be nice!

Thank you for your thorough feedback!

White backgrounds were quite popular back in 2005-ish It's quite a challenge to use white background successfully! Especially these days when they are no longer "in vogue".
As for variations, I'd have to check, honestly but I think it's one of the glynnsim variations that makes the circular shapes. I can dig for the params and send them to you if I can find them Or you can check out the fractal I linked in the description as source, there are params there and you could probably tweak them enough to get to similar results to mine.
The bluriness is intentional, I'm using pre-blur variation for that. I like some depth of field to my fractals but every now and then somebody comments they don't like it, so I guess it can be distracting

You're quite welcome!

Ah okay, it's a separate plugin entirely. The end result looks like the Circles of Apollonius .

No need to dig for things if it's too much trouble!

Makes sense. Blur is one of those things that's highly subjective. I like it best when there are many different foreground/middleground/background layers.

I really like this! This arrangement of metallic and jewel tones really brings out the feeling of a negative space with that background. I feel like I could get lost in this. Well used!

I just discover your gallery and I'm stunned by your artwork. I'm a beginner in fractal and I don't even dream being able to create one day masterpieces like this. I see you are working for jewelry, this is no surprise. You make jewels!

Thank you, you are very kind! I compiled a list of useful fractal tutorials that helped me when I was a beginner, if you are interested, you can take a look

Project Educate Fractal Week - Apophysis TutorialsAs you might have noticed, this week of Project Educate is dedicated to fractals.
In this news article, I would like to present tutorials for Apophysis and show you examples of fractals made with these resources.
I hope that this way I'll bring your attention to resources you've never tried to work with or (in case you are already familiar with these) show you a new possibilities of what can be created according to that particular tutorial.
There is not enough space to feature all the wonderful tutorials and I am forced to make a selection of just several of them. The key for selection is me being already familiar with them, thus recommending to you some of the tutorials that helped me a lot.

Yes I am interested in tutorials A big part of the fractals in my small gallery are made from tutorials. I didn't know these ones, except for the great "Splits elliptic", which I didn't manage to finish. Should have made a mistake. But it's fine, I have noticed one can obtain somewhat interesting results from failed tuts sometimes (a big part of this big part are from failed tuts...)
I want to say that it is very nice of you to take the time to help little "newbies" like me I really appreciate it. Thank you!

You are most welcome. I actually bought a print of this to give as a graduation gift. It's as stunning, complicated, and just plain amazing as my son's girlfriend is, so it's a fitting first piece of art. He thinks so too. 😄

I used to have a bunch of computer wallpapers of fractals with white backgrounds in the earlier 2000's. I think it's still a nice style.

This is a beauty, Eli!  I like the lightness and grace of it.  The background choice makes it seem more solid or grounded.  Dark backgrounds seem to float in space.  Cheers!
