I'll just copy text I've wrote in my Tumblr.
Fallout is solitary experience.
Yahtzee gave great analogy to games like these - “water cooler games”.
Players discuss familiar events and places, but each has their own stories.
What “atmosphere or immersion” we are talking about if one of your co-players spastically jumps around
and second is trying to make word “f*ck” from dead ghouls bodies?
Fallout 76 looks like just another shooter with cool post-apoc wallpapers.
Same sad feeling I have when I look at Warhammer: Vermintide.
Some poor souls spent weeks modeling that gorgeous library. “Who cares?!! More rats!”.
Brings memories about 2000s, when we competitively played Quake III: Arena.
Deliberately bringing graphical settings to minimal.
Because multiplayer is not about pretty pictures.
Look at Dark Souls: how drastically changes mood when you play alone and when you play co-op or was invaded.

In an age when everyone and their mothers dog are coming out with 100 player games, leave it to Bethesda to keep riding the 15 year old engine as hard as they can into 64 player servers. I can't wait to hear that 76 has performance problems related directly to the 2003 Morrowind engine and the 1996 Quake 1 multiplayer networking.
Just imagine for a moment what a 100 player fallout battle royale would be like: instead of 16 automatic rifles and 14 pistols, you'd have power armor, gatling cannons, vertibirds, robot npc sidekicks... Can you see it? Can you imagine it?
Now forget it cuz it'll never happen. The entire engine would have to be rebuilt.
Fallout is a great universe, but squeezing Fallout 76 out, eeking "just one more game" out of the engine, is just plain disappointing.

Nailed it. Fallout is, was, and should always be a solo game. You can take the world on at your pace, in your way. It's the same with things like Elder Scrolls. Beautiful vistas await, when you don't have people bouncing around like spastic leprechauns...

Nothing is more jarring than trying to enjoy the view, when couple braindeads are jumping on the background.

Probably won't happen.
As I heard, Bethesda in their "ultimate wisdom" (aka "utter stupidity") made servers with very limited player count.
But I wish they moved in.
It would be poetic justice "Oh you thought your game is special? Nope. As sh*t as most of MMO".

This game is shit indeed. Nowadays game developers and publishers don't even pretend any more - they show you a crappy game and tell you: 'Here! Eat this shit! It's fun!'
