Well, I know just what you mean, but I don't recall having seen such an effect previously. Your 'delivery' in watercolour is divine, and is more than just colours and tones!

I miss volume to the body a bit, it seems flat, every feather shaded but not the body as a whole. But then, I'm not sure a realistic shading would fit with the background

I knew something wasn't quite right with the body, but couldn't put my finger on it. You're probably right. That sometimes happens to me, I get lost in the details and forget about the whole

Putting fingers is surprisingly difficult when it comes to one's fresh works.
Maybe experiment a bit, then? Get messy and see what comes out of it? I think those feelings often come from being "trapped" in one technique. Might not be true for you, though.
