Mmm, in the comics Zod never has be a total killer... maybe in the Last Son saga? I don't count the Byrne's version because was another reality.

I remember right in The Last Son Saga he built a fortress of solicitude in the middle of Metropolis, in the War of Supermen he unlash an army of Kryptonian around the world that killed what many people (but tell the true, Samuel Lane destroyed New Krypton so that is even). And before he try to conquer and destroy humanity how many times?

Cute boy was the Superman II Zod, that appear to be more a gigolo than a conquer, this at least isn't a walking plot hole last one. And I say walking plot hole because it very conveniently that Zod and his lackey have the supers when they come out of the phantom zone. If not. How they planned conquer Earth? They didn't have ships, weapons or even an armor, so that make all Superman II a plot hole.
