Saw this thru the Manga Revolution Tutorial: the watercolours look fantastic... it makes it very retro-looking, like a cover from a girl's manga printed 20 years ago... but that's not a bad thing, is it!? Considering how much people rely on digital nowadays.

How do you stop the paper from wrinkling? Do you sue heavy-weight paper or do you stretch it first?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

luciole In reply to MalteseLizzieMcGee [2008-03-06 03:09:58 +0000 UTC]

XD Mostly I stretch it.

The purple and blue watercolors remind me so much of what the galaxy looks like. I wonder if this is what lies in the center of the universe...

Holy crap. *Stares* I was on MangaRevolution and was looking through all your tutorials and this one totally popped out. You're inspiring and (since I don't have an account there), I'd like to tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to explain and show people like me how to draw. And paint. And show your skillizzies (Did I just type that? O.o). You are amazing and I love your work. Actually, I adore it and you. Did that sound creepy? Oh well. It doesn't matter because I'm tired and bouncy at the same time.

You totally rock. Thank you so much. No. Really.

Do you make up the image in your head before you paint it, or is it a picture/anime/any reference?
I tend to try to go too realistic to just be satisfied with watercolors working this way..lol
But now that I've seen the Walkthrough I think I might try doing this
It is really gorgeous, I know i'm just repeating a lot of what has been said but it is. The only problem is keeping it away from my 1 yr old's hands while it's drying. I live int he UK with a LOT of rain so leaving it outside is likely to wash the whole picture away! LOL

I have some reference before starting, but the concept is usually mine. For this picture, te commissioner suggested it And ooo keep your child away from wet paintings.. bad idea XD! Keep it on a shelf or something.

You did say questions and feedback were welcomed... You didn't mention the one thing I wanted to know most! You just kind of did it without telling how! T-T How did you cover up the spots where the background bled into hair, etc? I can't get new paint to cover it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

luciole In reply to Kokitsune-Koyuki [2007-05-25 05:37:49 +0000 UTC]

To cover the spots, I used gouache plakat white.

Kokitsune-Koyuki In reply to luciole [2007-05-25 13:57:02 +0000 UTC]

O.O Oh. You can paint over that? I've been using ceramic paint because I have that, and I can't afford to buy anything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

luciole In reply to Kokitsune-Koyuki [2007-05-25 14:21:25 +0000 UTC]

XD You can't replace ceramic paint with watercolors, watercolors is unique.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kokitsune-Koyuki In reply to luciole [2007-05-25 14:57:40 +0000 UTC]

Nooo, that's not what I mean. Ew, ceramic paint would look terrible anyway. I mean for the white... guache? paint.

krystal198 [2007-05-04 12:26:28 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this is amazing! I have a question, how do you keep the skin so clean? Or rather, how do you manage to keep the colours from bleeding into one another?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

luciole In reply to krystal198 [2007-05-18 11:59:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks The parts that should be kept clean, should be kept dry. So the wet colors will not bleed into the dry part.

krystal198 In reply to luciole [2007-05-18 12:14:41 +0000 UTC]

oh i see! thank you! Uh, I have one more question (sorry!) How thick is the paint when you apply it to the paper? is it very fluid (like water) or thicker?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

luciole In reply to krystal198 [2007-05-18 12:22:00 +0000 UTC]

If I want the paint to be dark, it is thick. If I want it to be lighter, I dilute it more Watercolors is very flexible!
