Description "Another victory!" A boy with shaggy blonde hair laughed, throwing his arms into the air as the other two males sighed. Hisoka chucked his cards down on the metal bleachers where they sat on the roof. This was their turf during the early morning until lunch when they would travel down to the schoolyard's fountain for some one on one action with the ladies. The blonde grinned, "Looks like your buying our lunch again, Katashi." "Shinobu, I swear you hide cards in your sleeves," the brunette glared at his friend as Hisoka gathered the cards to shuffle once again. "Hey! I'm not a cheater, you just suck!" he pouted, crossing his arms.

"Speaking of people who suck.. Hisoka, why were you late?" Katashi questioned. The dark-haired male shrugged with a smirk, "Just setting myself up for some positive karma." Katashi rolled his eyes at this, "Karma is a bunch of bullcrap." "Don't be like that, Katashi. There's nothing wrong with trying to get some good mojo every once in a while," Shinobu whined before leaning forward in interest, "So what was it today, Hisoka? A certain damsel in distress?" Hisoka frowned slightly, shuffling the cards in his hands, "Not exactly. Kodaru and his gang were beating on this nerd, so I set them straight." Shinobu grinned brightly, "I knew it. The almighty Hisoka proved once again why he's top dog! I bet they ran away in tears, didn't they?" The rebel laughed lightly at this, "Like babies."

Two periods came and went that morning and when the bell ending second block sounded Hisoka put the cards down. "Awh, time for you to leave already?" Shinobu pouted. This was an every day occurance, one would think that the blonde would have gotten over it by now. After all, school had been in session for two months already. Hisoka waved a two fingered salute to his groupies on his way to the stairs, "You know the drill. I can't miss History."

Chrono made his way around the idle chatterin bodies in the hall in silence as he always did. He had no friends to stop and talk to, as sad as that sounded. It never bothered him much though. Why did he need friends when he had his studies? As long as he had the company of a book he was never alone. The vampire sat himself in the corner of the class furthest from the windows and got ready for class. Several students had come in and as always they avoided him. There was one thing that happened every day that never meant much to the white haired student until now, and that one thing had just entered the room. "How did I forget that!?" Chrono opened his text book, sat it in front of him on his desk, and slumped down in an attempt to hide himself. He could hear someone sit down in the desk in front of his and mentally cursed himself for not remembering. "I should have changed seats," he groaned. A pencil from his desk rolled off onto the floor. Chrono ignored this, sinking further into his seat. A hand with lon fingers picked the pencil up and turned in their seat, "This yours?"

The wrap was up, he couldn't ignore him now. Chrono slowly sat back up and dropped the book down on his desk, "Don't touch my stuff," he took the pencil from Hisoka. There it was, that glowing grin spread on Hisoka's face, "Oh! Hey there, Glasses. I didn't know you were in this class." "My name isn't Glasses. You can't remember what my name is, can you?" he frowned, glaring at the other boy from behind his specticals. "Chroichi, right?" Chrono would have taken this as a joke if the look on Hisoka's face wasn't so serious. It was as if he really did believe that was his name. "It's Chrono!" he snapped. The teacher hushed them. "That almost sounds like an illness. I think Glasses is a much better name," Hisoka smiled. Chrono tried ignoring the idiot. He hadn't gotten in trouble before and he didn't plan to start now. He began scribbling down the notes from the board. "I can't believe I never noticed you. Your hair is so odd, I think I should have seen you before," Hisoka tapped his chin, completly oblivious that class had started several minutes ago. "Turn around, moron," Chrono muttered. The tall boy payed no attention to this, "I never write that crap down anyways." A tapping could be heard behind Hisoka at this point. The teacher was standing there, clapping a rolled up work book against his hand with an angered glint in his eyes, "Hall, now."

The two boys stood in the hall, holding buckets of water at their sides as punishment. "This is all your fault," Chrono growled as he glared out the window in front of them. Silence took over the hall as they stood there, adjusting their shoulders periodically from the strain. Hisoka's dark blue hues glanced over at the other and saw the bruise clearly forming on his cheek, "Do you get beat on often?"

"What's it matter to you? You're a popular guy who can do whatever he wants and doesn't need...no shouldn't care what happens to a little freak like me." Chrono replied harshly as he glared at the window in front of them. "I can care if I want. Now tell me. Do you?" Hisoka pressed as he stared at the boy. He had noticed a few more marks on the boys face that were harder to find. There was a light brusie under his left brow, his eyes were a mix of red and a bit of yellowish from a fading brusie. He also noticed the large crack on the right side of his glasses, probably happened when the brusie was made since they were on the same side.

A sigh from the small vampire came and caught Hisoka's attention. "Yes, I do get beat on often. I have no friends, no family that lives here in Japan, no other vampires around, I don't suck human blood, and I'm a small nerd. All of that obviously screams beat the shit out of me." Chrono said as he looked down trying to not give too much emotion into the subject. "Why would he care? He doesn't need to. It's not like it'll change anything. Why did I even bother telling him." The vampire thought as he chewed on his lip. His fang peircing the soft flesh and caused a line of blood to slide down his chin. Hidden to the tall male beside him.

Hisoka thought a moment on what was said then frowned. "Heh, I don't think that's true. You'd be on my list of targets if it were." He said to the boy who stayed staring at the floor. "Then why haven't you targeted me? Or have you now that you know me more." He growled a bit at the end as vampire instinct told him to challenge the boy. Though of course he'd never really fight anyone. He wasn't that type of person. He just had a hard time keeping his attitude in check. He looked up at the human beside him with a slight glare. His yellow-green eyes staring directly into the dark blues in front of him.

The harsh stare was answered with a cocky grin, one that Hisoka wore often, "You're not a threat to me. If you caused me problems, then yeah I'd be right along with Kodaru smashing your face into the concrete." Hell, he didn't even notice the kid until today, he wasn't a danger to Hisoka's status as alpha. Chrono's expression didn't change, "You're all the same." This, Hisoka took offense to, "Hey! I've got standards unlike Kodaru." He pouted slightly, then a brilliant idea came to mind, "I know! You need friends, why not come to the cafe after school with me today? It's karaoke night."

Genuine surprise washed over Chrono's face but soon faded into suspicion, "Why would I go to a cafe with you, Hisoka, when I'm just.. a nerd without a name?" The vampire scowled at this last bit. "You have a name, to me it's Glasses. But I'd make sure the others know to call you Chrono," Hisoka rattled this off with a more serious tone than before. Chrono didn't know what part of that statement to pick apart first and stumbled over his words, "If you can remember my name then use it yourself! And what do you mean by others?" The other male chuckled, "I don't think your name suits you. I keep saying that Glasses if a better name for you, haven't I?" "That doesn't make it a valid reason, and don't avoid my question! I'm not going anywhere in a group. I can't even sing."

The bell rang and noise rose in the class room they were standing outside of. Hisoka grinned, setting the buckets down, "I'll catch you after school. It's going to be a blast." Chrono tried putting together a logical insult but Hisoka was already half way down the hall and other students were filling the empty space. He huffed, "He obviously wasn't being serious. I bet he'll forget about all this by lunch."

Fourth block came and went and Hisoka's gang was sitting on the fountain with their lunches. A group of three girls walked up to them as per routine and sat with the boys. "How heroic of you!" a girl with long honey brown hair exclaimed in excitement. She smiled brightly up at Hisoka as he pushed his bangs from his face, "It was nothing. I also invited him to join us for karaoke tonight." Katashi opened up a package of bread and shoved it in his mouth, "Maybe he'll be just as entertaining as you and Shinobu." "Well, I'm looking forward to meeting him!" the brunette smiled just like before. "Look out, Hisoka. This new guy could steal Harumi's heart right from under you," a second girl with multicolored hair cackled, hugging Harumi with a teasing grin up at the rebel.

Harumi frowned, "Chinatsu, you shouldn't speak like that. It's rude." "Why can't you two just go out already? Your lovey-dovy gazes are overbearing sometimes!" Chinatsu placed her hands on her hips. "You're just imagining things, right Mio?" Harumi looked to her other friend who seemed more withdrawn, "Oh, uhm. Yes, that's right. Chinatsu, you've got a vivid imagination." No one other than the rainbow girl ever pointed this out, namely because they knew Harumi was too ditzy to realize her own feelings.

Lunch continued as usual within this group of teens and once it was over the rest of school seemed to buzz on by. Hisoka and his gang stood outside the school's gate, waiting on their lovely females and this new addition to their group. A lighter cracked open a flame and lit the raven-haired male's cigarette as he leaned against the fence. Katashi rose a brow, "You know if Harumi sees you smoking she'll throw a fit." Hisoka shrugged this off, "I'm a man, I'll do what I want."

Chrono hurried out of his last class and started out of the building. He noticed Hisoka and two other guys standing by the entrance and blinked. "Wait is he seriously waiting for me?" He wondered as he stopped and thought of if he should head over or not. As he stood there three girls had walked over to Hisoka's group causing Chrono to blush lightly. "Who am I kidding? He was waiting on them not me." He said as he turned to go a different way home. He had to walk around the back of the school to not be seen by Hisoka's group. And so behind the school he went.

As he was passing the pool area Chrono heard chuckling from behind him and quickly knew who they were. He was grabbed by the back of his school jacket and pulled back getting dragged away. "Now Chrono. Getting a prince charming are we?" Came the oh too familiar voice of Kodaru who pulled him to the pool area and up to the edge of the pool. Chrono shivered as he looked down at the water. His books were knocked away as they always were and he was pushed to the ground at the edge of the pool. His head hanging over the water as Kodaru chuckled again and stood letting his gang hold Chrono still. "Your hero ain't gonna save you this time Chrono. He's already left the grounds by now. Heh, Dunk him." He said giving a thumbs down with a grin on his face.

Chrono's head was forced down into the water and held there as he struggled in fear, his glasses falling off into the water. After keeping his head in the water for a while the boys pulled his head back out by his hair. He coughed and choked as he tried to get air. "Another pathetic thing about you. You're a vampire who needs to breath. I mean are they sure you're a vampire? Dunk him" Kodaru said as he walked back over and bent over to see Chrono struggle against the boys holding him in.

Once his head was pulled out again Chrono struggled to speak. "Please stop *Cough* Hisoka didn't even know me. He still basically doesn't. It was a one time thing." He choked out as he coughed. Kodaru grabbed Chrono by the front of his jacket and pulled him up so he was standing. "Oh, and you think I should just believe you. And besides a nerd like you should never be saved. You can just drown." Kodaru growled out as his grip tighten on Chrono's jacket.

"So, where is this little dame in distress you talked about, Hisoka?" Shinobu questioned, looking around. Hisoka shoved his hands in his pockets staring at the school entrance, "Don't know." "Let's just go already, our table could be taken if we wait much longer!" Chinatsu skipped on ahead of them only to have them follow behind her. Harumi was going on about the smoking, but Hisoka wasn't paying much attention, "I know, but it's how I vent my stress." The grorup walked around the edges of the school, heading to the back towards the path leading to downtown.

It wasn't until the girls screamed that the boys turned their attention to the fense. Katashi sighed, "Looks like Kodaru's up to it again." Hisoka squinted his eyes to see just who the victom was this time. Sure enough, white hair gave it away. He muttered while grabbing onto the fence, "That'd be why he didn't show up," and up the fence he went. Shinobu and Katashi glanced at each other and excused themselves from the girls as they walked towards the back entrance to the gate.

Hisoka jumped down from the top of the fence and dashed over to Kodaru's gang for the second time that day, "Don't you know how to take a hint?" Kodaru frowned, not expecting to see him again, "Looks like your prince wants you," he knocked Chrono down at the edge of the pool to keep a distance between Hisoka and himself. "I don't think you understand how this works, Kodaru. I save something, and it belongs to me from then on," Hisoka had a seriousness about him that was slightly frightening and the oposing gang was obviously struck by this. Kodaru stood his ground, not noticing Shinobu and Katashi already dealing with his gang from behind, "See it as, borrowing, Hisoka. You can't blame me for wanting to play with the little rat." A hand grasped Kodaru's jacket and pulled him close. Hisoka sneered, "I don't like people touching my things." Kodaru found a knee slammed into his gut and his body fell back. Chrono hand gotten up on his knees, trying to pick himself up when Kodaru bumped into him which sent them both falling into the pool.

"Stupid punk," Hisoka snorted as his friends walked over. Shinobu frowned, "Hisoka, I have gym with that guy. I don't think he can swim." Sure enough, Kodaru had climbed up the side of the pool and ran off, but Chrono hadn't surfaced. Katashi caught the jacket that was tossed at him and they were greeted by a splash of water as Hisoka jumped in. Chrono was holding his chest, choking on water after losing the energy to try to stay afloat. All hope was lost until he felt an arm wrap around him and yank him up to the surface. Hisoka swam Chrono over to the side and the others helped pull him out of the water.

Chrono gasped for air as Hisoka pulled him up the surface and clung to him as he swam to the edge. As he was grabbed onto a pulled out he struggled a little in fear since he was almost drowned and he couldn't see what was going on or who was grabbing him. "What the hell kid? We're getting you out okay calm down." Came the complaint from Katashi as he and Shinobu got Chrono out and away from the edge of the pool.

Hisoka was starting to get out until he heard them and noticed something. "Glasses." He said as he dove back in. His two friends stared a moment then looked down at Chrono who was still trying to get away from them. "He wears glasses?" Katashi questioned as he rose a brow. "Now that I think about it yeah." Shinobu replied smiling nervously. Shortly after Hisoka came back out and climbed out of the pool and walked over to Chrono. "Let him go. Hey Glasses you're okay." Hisoka said in a cocky but somewhat caring tone as he slowly slipped Chrono's glasses on his face.

Chrono blushed as he saw Hisoka's face mere inches from his own. "Why, why did you....I mean you were...you were going to hang with your friends why come and save me?" Chrono asked shakily as he panted and shivered. "Duh, I told you before I can care about you if I want. I saved your ass so you're mine now. And besides I said I wanted you to go with me to the cafe remember." Hisoka said rolling his eyes but had a very serious tone in his voice. "So come on Glasses let's go." He added as he stood and helpped Chrono to stand.

The girls started running over by then and looked at the two. "Oh, Hisoka is he alright? Are you alright?" Harumi questioned as she came closer to the two. "Yeah we're good. "Hisoka replied shrugging. "Well then, are you going to introduce me to him?" Harumi asked cheerfully as she looked at Chrono. Chrono slightly hid behind Hisoka, he wasn't much of a people person and having so many around him was a bit frightening. At the moment Hisoka was the one he knew the best and so he was his sheild from the others. A hand was planted on the wet white mop of hair, "This is Chrono Ichinomiya, reknown school vampiric nerd."

Harumi shooshed him at this, "Be nice, Hisoka. I think I remember seeing you around, Chrono. Pleased to meet you. My name is Harumi Sugihara, and these are my friends Chinatsu and Mio. I'm sure you'll feel right at home with us in no time." Her smile was warm and motherly, a trait that won the hearts of many. Hisoka took his jacket back and pulled it on over his wet clothes, "And these two are my lackies, Katashi and Shinobu." Katashi gave a plain wave compaired to Shinobu's bright grin.

In under an hour Hisoka and his group had managed to coax Chrono into joining them to the cafe. The owner spent a few minutes teasing Hisoka about the wet clothes and meeting Chrono all with a smile. Soon they were at a back table near a karaoke stage with towels, drinks, and snacks. Chinatsu grinned, pulling her rainbowed locks back into a ponytail. She leaned towards Chrono, "So, Dracula! What grade are you in?"

Chrono shivered as she leaned towards him and leaned away from her, pushing himself as close to Hisoka as he could. He felt like a scared child wanting to hide behind his brothers like he use to back when he lived with them. He mumbled softly his grade, but it wasn't loud enough for anyone to hear causing the girl to frown. "Hisoka, is he defective?" The girl asked only to be elbowed by Harumi lightly. "Chinatsu. I'm sorry Chrono, she didn't mean it. You don't need to be afraid of us." Harumi smiled at him and he only shook his head and hid his face in Hisoka's arm.

"Aw, he's so cute cuddled up to you like that Hisoka." Harumi said as she moved to sit on the seat next to Chrono. Chinatsu sat down by Mio and crossed her arms pouting. "I still think he's defective." Chinatsu said as she looked away. Mio just shook her head as Katashi and Shinobu chuckled and looked at Hisoka chuckling more at the sight. "Oh why did I say I'd come. I knew I'd just be sitting still afraid of everyone. Hisoka's gonna get up and yell at me for clinging to him like this. I should have gone home." Chrono thought as he pulled his feet up onto the seat and curled up beside Hisoka.

Hisoka waved a hand dismisively to get them to stop laughing at this, "You think that's cute, you should see him when he's mad." He joined in the laughing. Chrono hid his face in his arms, wishing he could disappear. That, an already impossible task, was made harder when he was being dragged out of his seat, "Time for a duet!" The tall boy had pulled the struggling vampire up onto the stage and handed him a microphone. "But I don't sing!" Chrono fell over his words as the song started.

The night was filled with horrible singing, though none from Chrono as he just stood on the stage awkwardly each time he was pulled up there either by Chinatsu, Shinobu, and Hisoka. Chrono had tried to study whenever he could, but the table became too rowdy at times and he found himself getting dragged into conversations only to stammer out a line or two or getting told to try this or that. Everyone had a smile on their face at one time or another, except for Chrono.
