Description
With the colossal success of MGM's smash hit SUPER AMAZONS, the stampede was on for the other studios, all of whom realized that serials could be a huge money earner from ticket sales to adults, not just kids. And since MGM had made their hit with superpowered women, the other studios followed suit.

First up was Warner Bros. They purchased the rights to Superman but then changed the gender, creating the Girl of Steel. Since the famous costume was now Warner Bros. property, they began tinkering with the look to see what might work best on camera.

Here we see Warner contract player Estelle Longmont in one of the early efforts from the costume department, facing off against an extra for lighting tests. (Trivia: The extra is a young Victor Mature!)
