It was at that moment that she knew, she fucked up.

Also she was going to kill her armorer if she lived through this.

It was bugging me in different games from time to time. One way to deal with something that buggs me is to draw a picture poking fun at it

Reminder that if your fantasy armor doesn't use Magik Shields, you may want to reconsider using it.

I know it's not used as much in modern fantasy, but the reason why I believe characters such as Wonder Woman and Red Sonja still have the Chainmail Bikini is the Grandfather Clause. I know Red Sonja wears her chainmail bikini even in cold weather and realistically she should have frozen to death in such weather but Dynamite Entertainment still has her wear that armor. And Wonder Woman still wears her outfit, even though realistically her limbs would be full of bullet holes, but people write that off of her being a daughter of Zeus and her having divine powers

To be fair though, all throughout history people have worn full armor in battle, and it really does them little good.Β  In war, people are going to be killed no matter what.Β  A well aimed sword thrust,Β  or spear or Arrow is still going to find it's way through armor and fatally wound the person underneath it.

Nyerguds In reply to Illythyrra-Eldin [2019-01-16 13:28:45 +0000 UTC]

It's an arms race. People design better armour, people design better weapons to pierce it. This is the reason crossbows spelled the end of the plate steel armour era, and the reason bulletproof vests are made and used today.

a fact that was lost on the uploader of this image, when he or she decided to be rude to me in their response of my comment.Β  The entire point, that you seem to understand, and that they did not, isΒ  that armor or no armor, you are going to die in battle, eventually.

Nyerguds In reply to Illythyrra-Eldin [2019-01-25 05:22:42 +0000 UTC]

The fact you fail to realize, though, is that people wear armour for the simple reason that it definitely increases their chances of survival. Otherwise, y'know, they wouldn't bother making it. Armour is still several millimeters of steel; a simple arrow or sword can't pierce that.

So, no, it really does do them a lot of good, in battle.

Β What you say makes no sense. You contradict yourself in the same sentence.

-all throughout history people have worn full armor in battle

-it really does them little good

Β Or are you implying people throughout history are idiots? Start making sense.

It's never really bothered me to be honest.Β  Nobody ever dies in an rpg unless it's scripted, and I can cite several sources in gaming in which a man was fully armored, and yet was still killed by a well aimed sword thrust to the chest (Lavitz from the legend of the Dragoon)Β  in which they use magic to describe how it happened (because magic, bitch!)

If that's fine, then this should be as well.Β  Besides, I don't video games, especially these sorts of video games for "realism"Β  A dragon that breaths fire on a fully armored human is going to be just as dead as one wearing what this girl is wearing here.Β  Unless the armor is blessed by a goddess and in which case I would argue that something like this could be blessed as well for the same result in the case of the girl above.

In a movie example, it certainly did not help Boromir from dying despite their being chain undernearth his clothing, same as Aragon's.

lol too true. I just don’t get why some fantasy creators feel they need to sacrifice safety for attractiveness, it’s actually not hard to make fantasy armor that is both effective and sexy.

All you need to do is clad the limbs and chest in shaped plated armor and put chainmail and/or something similar to modern bulletproof cloth over the midriff and areas that can’t be covered in armor and have it go up the neck a bit and you got something that both looks good and can actually catch a sword and arrow. Now everyone can be happy.

funny thing is, this type of armor never was a toe to toe armor, but hide in trees and sling arrows

archers and other ranged skirmishers wore some pretty substantial armor in the medieval period, there are even depiction of english longbowmen with plate armor, although not full harnesses like a knightly man at arms would be wearing

Just now I was having a discussion about how bad Hollywood is about including realistic female characters, and I went to post my saved text edit from years ago. I'm better about citing sources nowadays, so I Google image searched for the original... I feel bad that it was so difficult to find this one instead of a silly edit I did before I even knew how to add a border to text. ;-;
