"Sometimes when I was out traveling on my own I’d have trouble sleeping. I never had problems when I tacked onto other groups of wanderers. Their presence helped me relax, but on my own I’d think too much. I’d fret about the future and home, and about everything I missed. Everything yet to come. The fireflies helped me sleep. I hadn’t seen them before I came to the mainland. At first I thought they were bits of fire and that the forest was about to burn down around me. I nearly ran into a tree before I figured out what they were. Watching their lazy, looping flight and the tiny flashy stutter of their bodies occupied my lonely nighttime hours. I’d watch as they lit and spelled out patterns to one another, patterns I couldn’t understand, except for a general longing. I’d watch their silent dance in the meadows until my eyes became heavy lidded and I’d finally sink into a slumber illuminated with gentle, golden glow."

One of the manifestations of Orin's soul power is that little sparks, like those from a campfire, appear around him when he's happy or content. It relaxes him to know his fire isn't only destructive.
