Description Thoughts: A study of General Tesler. An attempt on two counts of differing (large-scale) technique, and an effort at capturing that essence of fury of him... Judging by that heavy lighting on his face, there must be something on fire nearby.

There is something to be said about the many shades of expression which Tesler exhibits. Unlike more of the common, youthful Programs of the Grid, and despite the General largely being considered of little more than shades of anger, there are many nuances to be seen and expressed in the hard angles and dark edges of his face.

Materials: Mechanical pencil, sketchbook paper, graphite stick, col-erase pencil, watercolor, acrylic.

Excellent!! You really captured the essence of Tesler! The lines, the shadings, the contours of his facial features, definitely awesome

Thank you yet again, 4thGeneration.

On taking a close study, I find that Tesler has far more depth or features to his face than one might first assume. Not only are there many steep angles which respond well to heavy lighting, there are also many screenshots that show a further bit of geometry/surface to his eyelids and eyebrows (not that I've captured those dimensions here) -  which, visually, is a nice quality, given that those areas are not just straight blackness, but have shades of light and form.

Visually, I struggle a little with the visual/characteristic angles of his eyelids, and exactly how much of his expression comes about. Given that his eyebrows are best amusingly stated as being 'permanent anger lines,' much of his expression comes from the angle of view one has of his face, and the set of his mouth. Lightning is the other heavy factor.

In any case, I find that his wordless, contemplative stare (or perhaps momentary self-restraint) holds some of the more distinct or fine-edged bits of expression of his.

Either way, there's still plenty for me to study until I feel I've come to a proper grasp of rendering Tesler.

Thank you very much for the continued response and eagerness, 4thGeneration.

Thank you, Kai-ni.

I've been trying to arrive at a better choice of style, but scale of drawings is a clear factor in that; what works for smaller drawings breaks down due to such things as the grain of the paper. Moreover, considering Tesler's suit (and ignoring how difficult it can be to properly depict the surface forms of his body), there isn't very much fine detail given to Program suits in Uprising.

I'll likely end up doing a series on trying to figure out what a suitable set of fine details might be. The only Programs we see that have a full range of 'sub plates' visible on is Tron, and Able - and those are two Programs not common to the new-generation set. So, it leaves a disparity of what might be common, or uncommon of those detail sets.
There is only one scene or screenshot where I recall a set of pectoral plates being just visible on Tesler's chest, but beyond the fact that his collar and shoulder-guards have dimension (which might hint at them partially being a sort of armor) there is no detail to be resolved.

(Using pigment/acrylic to paint lightlines is it's own sort of difficulty.)

So, I'll just have too keep on going, and see what studies of Tesler let me attain. He has both a grace and an air of threat, and like most characters in Uprising, there are plenty of small details to be found, and to build with.
